The roadie is going in for a major service its got 28,400Ks on the clock, I am getting the valve clearances done & a full service.... I am guessing that it will need shims as I don't think they have been done before. so my question is before I bend over & take it like a man, what sort of dollars would you expect to pay for this sort of service work?
I have been quoted $600 - $900 depending on the shims needed & time taken + the cams have to come out anyway so I didn't expect it to be cheap.....
Oh & I completely trust the mechanic doing the work, he is a customer of mine & we have done work for each other for 20 years or so.
She sounds quite loud in the valve department so I would guess there will be some swapping & replacing going on
$600 sounds about right Wattie & Gos..... but I don't want to fork out much more
Gee Plas just what I wanted to hear but this is what I need to know & why I posted up the question.... shit hey I had better stuff the wallet full before pick up
Mines due or prob well over due, i will do most of the work myself and just take it in for the valve job, so shouldn't be more than $300 with a few shims etc...

ive just put mine in to have the valves checked/adjusted, tho this means getting the carby's synced ... so much for a cheap job at least i can save on the oil change and do that myself
im also getting new chain and sprockets, which will add to the cost

You've got the rear stand, why pay someone else $70- $80 per hour, do it yourself its pretty easy job, there's even a how to on here by Robracer.
Once mastered makes it cheaper also to drop off just the rim for a new tyre too.....

Normally I do all the work on my bikes I have stripped a few engines over the years & had a few ground up rebuilds & so on, for this occasion I want it done perfect cause the six cops a beating hence booking it in, but after thinking about it I will have a little time between rides to do the rest myself, so my mechanic will only be doing the valve clearances & air filter while the tanks is off, everything else I will do .... all new fluids including brakes I only did 2 months ago, lube & adjust all cables, lube all pivot points etc etc...... I have to cut costs on this...... the new electricity bill is crippling
Oh & Owen didn't we do you chain & sprockets last year?
