+ 1..seems that if you ride a bike your are automatically in the wrong.Frank wrote:It pathetic, but sadly typical. One would just have to hope there is more to this, to let this bloke off scott free if it was him.
Centre road at 9.00am is a carpark. Like they would need to appeal for witnesses???????seiko1 wrote:This will end up the same![]()
"A motorcyclist and a police officer have been hurt in a crash in East Bentleigh, in Melbourne's south-east.
An unmarked police car was making a U-turn on Centre Road, near Magnolia Avenue, when it crashed into the motorcyclist just after 9:00am (AEST).
The 22-year-old was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The driver, a senior constable, was taken to the Monash Medical Centre with minor injuries.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash"
I spent the first 30 years of my life living a few hundred metres from there (in Rudyard st off Victor Rd ...opp Magnolia Ave)Jonno wrote:Thats a 4 lane section near Red Rooster within 100 meters from Warragul rd (another Major road), why do a U turn there unless in pursuit and does that make it right to endanger lives when doing so, if we did it well you know....
So the motorcyclist maybe injured but it was justified 'cos someone was talking on there mobileUPDATE 1.55pm: TWO men are dead and a biker has been seriously hurt by an unmarked police car in three separate accidents on the state's roads this morning. The motorcyclist, 22, from Clayton South, is in a serious but stable condition after he was hit by an unmarked police car about 9.15am at the intersection of Victor and Centre Rds in Bentleigh East.
He was been taken to The Alfred hospital suffering facial and head injuries with possible injuries to his pelvis.
The accident happened when the police officer did a U-turn in a bid to catch a driver on a mobile phone.
The motorcyclist then crashed into the driver's side of the police car.
The police officer was taken to the Monash Hospital with minor injuries.
Detective-Sen-Sgt Shane Rix, from Moorabbin Divisional Response Unit, said investigators were trying to determine who was at fault.
"Obviously early days, but it would appear that the member has executed a U-turn and if you do that you have got to make sure there is a clear passage way to do that,’’ he said.
"It’s just a matter of determining where the motorcyclist was positioned.’’
The police car is a write-off.
Detective Sen-Sgt Rix said the learner motorcyclist was extremely fortunate.
He said the officer immediately attended the motorcyclist and rang an ambulance.
Major Collision Investigation Unit and the Ethical Standards Department have been notified.
"The local CIU is also involved in the investigation,’’ Detective Sen-Sgt Rix said.
