Back in the day they didn't wear a lid, it wasn't compulsory if I read it correctly. Unfortunately they didn't have the budget they wanted to make it so that has an effect. For me an intriguing watch having read a book on the massacre and the lead up to it plus read the newspapers articles
I think you will find quite a few shots of them on bikes were actually them on a bike on the back of a trailer. They had a few issues with them riding along without helmets, today's OH&S laws were an issue so they had to minimise it.

Lids were just as compulsory back in the 70's and into the 80's as they are today. Mandatory helmet laws were in place in NSW from the 60's.
What the bro's did back then - was get medical exemptions for wearing a helmet. These used to be pretty easy to get, you could convince the quack that your sore neck stopped you wearing a lid and you only rode a bike to the shops.....
It was one of the immediate identifiers of the 1%'ers back in the day. Most everyone else valued their melons, so wore a lid.

That's right, you got a doctor's certificate and you were sweet, I was only a born in 73 and had no idea about bikes (still don't, but you don't need to ride them). Imagine trying that today, you would get sued for giving them a certificate if they crashed.
What I don't get are the girls who hang around them and still do. I guess it depends on what you look up to

It amazes me too. Some chicks just love the whole *bad boy* thing. What is more amazing, is that a lot of them are smokin' hot !
but as a general rule - wherever there are hairy tatts and noisy hogs, there will be saggy tits and ugly dogs.

1/2 of 1 episode was enough, what a load of rubbish..... even the patches looked ghey, none of it was realistic & the bikes were modern? WTF

Hahah the reliabilty of Harley's back then new were bad enough let alone using period specific model's for the show hahaha. The old shovel head motor ohh the horror
New ones are super reliable but it took 60 years of evolution to get there

Besides the bikes & their patches being wrong, their beards aren't long enough and their teeth are too white & straight. Not very realistic of the day. The moles were ok though

Really? Doing cartwheels whilst blokes shot water melons and had public sex wasn't up there?
