				What are these for?

				Protruding from the ends of my callipers pistons is a red material; what is this for, can I remove it and how?
The photo shows what I mean! These are my spare callipers though so don't worry, my running ones are much cleaner!

				Looks like busted up old pads or dried out any squeal goo.
Pistons are hollow. You should be able to clean that out. And be left with a big hole.

				I'd be using a screw driver. Make sure you don't damage the smooth part of the pistons.

				They are bakelite inserts that act as a thermal insulator and are suppose to be there, so I wouldn't go pulling them out if I were you. The older 4 pot Tokico calipers on the ZX9 and ZXR750 all had these solid pistons.
