hi all.

My 12 just had a total electrical fail in traffic today. Left it after pushing it aside and tried to restart after 2 hours and I'm getting.g a chirping type of alarm sound from inside.

Bike never missed a beat up until now. Any help would be appreciated as its stuck in a side street in redfern.

Is the sound coming from under the seat, does it engage the starter or go clicl click click, does the dash go blank when you hit the starter?

One big thing with 12R's is you need a top notch battery with a good charge, if you dont you get all weird shite happening.

Battery , put it this way that's happened to me a few times and it always has been the battery and it is best to get a new one imo.

...and....stuck in a side street in Redfern?..........make sure your insurance is up to date.

Just to add to this...

was the 12 extremely hot? I cnat imagine the speed in town being enough to get any cool air over her....
and mine spat the dummy one day in that same kind of way...(and yes I replaced the battery.. no more probs!)

I went to work on mine got of to open up and it conked out. A few clicks the needle jumped around but wouldnt start, replaced the battery and no probs since. I wasted a lot of time looking for more technical faults but in the end was an easy fix, at least i could lock mine in the shed until I figured it out . 12s love a good battery and it doesnt take a lot of deterioration for a fail . I could still use the battery in the boat to run the gps and sounder ok, it will still take a charge but not enough to keep the bike happy

yeh I have found the same issues with the MFP12 - got a new battery back in 2011, but hardly rode the bike last year......and now the replacment battery is giving me grief

yes

and they are a bugger to bump start by yourself..extra bodies are needed
to push the lump that is a ZX12R!

otherwise battery will be pharked

if the instruments do their check ..even if the battery is low or won't turn it over
it can be bumped.

Happened to me when the first battery decided to turn its toes up in 2010...was out on a ride
stopped at a servo and when i got back on, the thing went... nothing when I hit the start button
But given that the instruments had done the up and down flick.... I got a push and it started

when i got home, I tried again and ...nup not even an instrument check (so definitely new battery time)
