a little discolorisation......

welp, the new micron pipe came with the manual about my new exhaust, and it stated, don't be alarmed by the inevitable discolorisation that may occur with s/s pipes..... (or something to those effects)
well, i have only ridden the bike with the new pipe on a few times (commuting), and today was the little romp around the hills for the FIRST time, and mother dookie.... the damn thing is doing a late 1980's hyper-color t-shirt impersonation!!! it ain't shiny silver at the tip anymore! It has gone to a bronzey/goldy color!!!
I'm not too figged about it, as it still sounds sweet as a nut and is still working fine, and i could give two flying rats asses about the color of it, BUT.....
has this happened to anyone else (namely with microns) after one "real" ride??!!!

funny, huh?!

Most of them go that colour. I don't know enough about metal composition to be able to tell you what makes different brand cans change colour at different rates.

I can't see my can through the mud at the moment.

I think it's normal. I had a Staintune on my WR426 and when I sold it I flicked the original can back on and noticed that the front end of the staintune had gone that goldy sort of colour.

Gives it character.

The yoshi on my old 9 used to do that a bit, but a quick polish would bring it back to a nice shiney silver.

All I have to do with the titanium akra on the 10 is wipe it with WD40 every now and then

mate
its called tea staining (the bronzy colour)
and it comes from heating the stainless
it can be polished off or removed but there is no way to prevent it
the hotter the s/s gets the more the colour change
heres what happens re the colour....
TEMPERATURE °F...... COLOR........TEMPERATURE °C
700-800.............. Straw Yellow........370-425
900-1000.............Brown..................480-540
1100....................Blue....................600
1200................... Black.................. 650

and
there are many products available to get rid of it....
http://www.newmantools.com/polish/blueaway.htm
(I use an equivalent when I am s/s welding)

or plain old s/s cleaner from the supermarket
and plenty of elbow grease

I like it, means your baby is a hot one!

metal polish in the gold tube will fix it..

it's either heat or a mix of heat and exhaust fumes...

mine does it. just needs to be polished..

no different to a chromed car exhaust..

Yeah, I had some of that for the 9. Works quite well for a quick polish up after a wash, and it meant I could save the autosol for the stubborn bits.
