What is the nomal operating temp for a ZX10R
i know aroung the city and in traffic it is hotter
but what should it be around on the open road this time of year

i ask this because i think mine is running to cold
or seems very low for a normal operating temp

What are you getting? I'm getting mid 80's on the move, up to the high 90's in traffic.

Getting 65c on a run but thermostat should keep it up over 80c i would have thought

I must admit I'm not sure what I'm getting on a higher speed run...the temp gauge is the last one I'm looking at

65 does seem low...most engines seem to be built around 90-95 degree operating temp...

now Mick - aren't you keeping a close eye on that temp. guage when you are over the ton ?? tsk tsk.

mine being a slightly older spewzuki is probably got nothing to do wiht this

but mine (99' tlr) freeway/normal riding through the hills etc it sits on anywhere from 81-84 degrees, in the city the highest ive felt it go upto (and i mean felt) was 108 degrees'

my 04 six runs at 64degrees in the cool night air but will go up to 102 if idling in trafic or left idleing warming up so i figure the thermostat is set at 64 degrees, it runs around 75 on a run or at 200kph around the track.

Strange thing is the oil always seems to run cool and i have noticed it when i have changed the oil after making sure the engine is well and truely hot and think it has to do with a smaller capacity engine with a largeish sump capacity.

The bike has a 4litre sump capacity for a 636 engine my diesel has a 5 litre sump for a 2.8 litre capacity therefore the oil isnt working as hard and has a better chance of running cooler and suffering less from thermal breakdown.

my 05 runs at the same temps

Mine sits on around 60 moving along (in the mornings)... and 70, if I start slowing down. Mind you, never been in traffic on the thing, and most of the roads are LONG and STRAIGHT

I don't know specifically but the few times I've noticed the temperature guage when it's been coolish I think it sits around 65 or so. I wouldn't be too worried about it being cool though. If there was a prob with anything it would be running hot.
