Tankslappers..and tyres

as i mentioned on some other posts
I was out today..up Warburton way....and Mt Donna Buang and
part of Reefton (to go some places for some 'family' stuff)

thru some of the curvy stuff on Mt Donna Buang
and Reefton, the bike was strange
...specially on righthanders
and
as the ride went on, it was worse
to the point that if I took a hand off, the bars started
shaking and if you accelerated hard out out of a right hand
corner/curve...the bars went crazy
basically a full on tankslapper

cure?..ride slowly home and take it easy
(had to..too many cops around)

cause?
one worn out, scalloped front tyre
specially so on the RH side
not smooth and round at all
oh well
another new Bridgie for the front
(plus a set of brake pads)

Plenty of life left in the tread. Any explanation as to why this would occur?

low inflation in the tyres combined with the angle of the road (ot does slope for runoff to some degree to get to the gutters, even on the "straightest" of roads.

at least thats my guess.

What where the trye pressures and was the front bouncing a bit off the road surface rather than going up and down a bit.

I changed springs in the front then did a track day then rode to pi no problem but when we went to morgan park it was twitchy as hell.

I put it down to a slower track where i was up it all the time in the lower gears like 2nd and 3rd mostly combined with a stiffer front trye ( dunlop slick) and my setup was for a high load track (willowbank) and thought next time i go to morgan park i could soften off rebound and compression a bit and that would make the front tyre more inclined to keep contanct with the deck.

Just my 2 cents worth.

but why a bike that was okay before suddnly does it on a road ride is another question....hows the steering head bearings but they tend to make the bike push into corners from my experiance anyway.

snip....hows the steering head bearings but they tend to make the bike push into corners from my experiance anyway.
tyre pressure on the front was 34psi as usual (checked b4 I left)
and the steering head bearing were replaced 3 months ago

I think it comes down to the fact that
1) the tyre was worn anyway (the pics don't show this clearly)
2) I really work the front end hard on the GPx ...coz
3) the front end has no real adjustment (only thicker oil/more oil)

when I dropped the wheel/tyre at BKwaka this morning
Ken commented how the tread block edges were really turned up
as well ..another symptom of working the tyre hard

just some more info

cheers
