Evolution of bikes....

My first bike was actually a Honda MTX-50cc.... A friend of mine bored it out to 80cc.... In the netherlands you are allowed to own a 50cc bike without a license... Boring them out is illegal... but hey..... its a lot of fun to ride when 80cc... Top speed reached on this bike was 135Km indicated.... the standard 50cc bikes have a top speed of around 80...

(see first picture)

Moved back to NZ and bought a GF250SS... A great little bike, using the same engine as the GSX-R250's this little bike got me seriously into road riding...

(see second picture)

I took a break from riding for a few years, did some traveling around various countries in europe and was too broke for a while, when I got back to NZ I bought a car (for work and stuff) and I almost forgot about riding until I was pillioned on the back of someone's bike... The very next day i bought a new bike ...

(see third picture)

As soon as I passed my license I went out and bought a CBR600F3 (it was the best bike for the money at the time)...

(see fourth picture)

This bike was my first project bike ever, it needed some TLC.... I repaired all the paintwork myself, installed a K&N Air filter, After Market pipes and Zorst, and Dynajet needles, after market decals, mirrors, reduced the rear mudguard, replaced the blade with a tinted one, got a personalised plate... Sold it when I moved to Aus...

Finally I got this.....

(see last picture)...

So far I have not done anything to it..... I bought it second hand with just about 12k on the clock .... it already had a tinted screen, yoshi can, rear reduction kit, rear cowl.... what can I say.... you cant beat perfection... it just had its aniversary.... it now has just over 40,000 on the clock...

My biking history is relativly short, so I'll do it pictorially. Not all of these are my actual bikes, as I don't have pics of most of them.

First ever bike - 1979 Yamaha RS125 - mine was converted for off road :) This pic isn't mine

Image

My first real road bike was a version of the FZ750 with VMax styling, known as the FZX750 Fazer or baby VMax. I owned this from 96 until I had to sell it in Dec 2003. This pic is of my bike.

Image

My next bike I got to commute to Uni, and I only had for 3 months before it was written off. Took me a while to track down exactly what it was; turned out to be a faired GT550. this pic isn't mine - mine was blue & white

Image

I replaced the GT550 with an 87 CBR600FH, which was custom pained, metallic blue. It followed the the GT500 by being written off. Again this pic isn't mine.

Once I got to Aus (before I heard of KSRC), I purchased another CBR600, this time a 99 (FX). I've have owned it for two years and done 50,000k so far.

My first bike was a 1996 Kawasaki ZZR250, I had it for exactly 12 months, before trading it in on a 1997 Honda CBR600F3..I had this bike for 4 years, but then sold it to buy a unit.

I was bikeless for 4 years and then had the opportunity so, that is why I now have a 2000 Kawasaki ZX9R.

my first bike was a 1971 cb250, fark it went, just a shame i killed the motor, else i'd have kept it to properly restore *grin*. I had it precisely 4 months in which time i had taken it out thrice and killed it on the last run, up on the fricking M2 of all places on the way to a ride :-(

For a 32 year old bike at the time i had her, she had a LOT of poke to her, 30hp to be precise, not bad for the old girl. Look here for what i did to restore her, waaaaay too much tlc put into the job.
Image

Next came the infamous EL250 with the custom paintjob a past owner bestowed her with. Bought her with 36kkm, sold her with 45kkm. She uses the gpx/zzr250 motor so was a peice of piss to look after maintenence wise. Ironically i learned my most valuable lesson on this bike, do NOT trust ONLY the OEM manuals, they are SHIT, i confused myself and have only myself to blame for needing the engine to get rebuilt after replacing the timing chain myself .

After some problems with the carbies on the el250 which i got the major shits with ( i now suspect it was simply a case of clogged jets-itis, oh well, live & learn) i traded the bike in on the only LAMS approved twin i could afford to get my mitts on.
Image

Which was the LTD450, a parallel twin motor of 454cc in capacity and made from 1/2 a gpz900 motor, funny enough i joked about the bike being "half a ninja". This bike was equally called the en454 or the LTD450 depending on which market you bought her in.

One thing unanimously agreed on by all that saw her that she was butt-ugly. I rebuilt her front forks myself & put after market shocks on her and didn't have her fall over, a proud moment if i do say so myself!

It was also the bike i learned that mid-80's bikes have rust-magetium built into the metal as the pipes (esp the crossover) were farked when i bought her & did less than 300km's on her before gettin the shits and having everything south of the headers & north of the cans replaced. The best thing about her though was she was a cheap bang-for-buck bike (450cc / 50hp), oh and she had a belt final drive, I almost NEVER had to adjust that sucker, ever.

Sold her to partially fund my latest (and actually longest kept) accquisition, ltd450 i shan't miss thee...

enter the gpx750, its not the purtiest bike going (hmm seems to be a reoccuring theme, 80's, bike, butt ugly). Fun th get around on, the missus doesn't mind pillioning TOO much, fun to get about, cheaper than the car to run..... just. I've replaced enough things on her to start feeling confidant she isn't going to leave me stranded anytime soon, and hey, with 18kkms on her in 20 months, she's held up well, considering she had 70kkms when i got her. (pic will get added when i get home tonight)
