When I left England in 2003, their fuel was £0.98 a litre ($2.35au). Also, if the government loses taxation revenue from fuel, it will only have to raise that money from somewhere else.

the UK? try £1.39 /litre when I was there late last year...ouch
and
yeah..our fuel is cheap...NOT
at $1.30/litre, the guvmint is taking via excise and GST
about 55c/litre...with the promise it goes back into roads!
yeah right.....
That promise is CRAP. If ALL the $10+ billion raised EACH YEAR in excise
and GST from fuel went back into roads ...there would be no toll roads
anywhere!
Melbourne to Sydney to Brisbane would be a hi-speed motorway
..the whole way. atm...Melbourne to Sydney will be finished around 2009
Our Feds just gave us a budget that showed they would
rake in...after giving some tax cuts...approx $16BILLION
more than they would spend on us.
In other words, our fuel prices could drop 60c/litre
and the country would be no worse off....
politicians....phark 'em.... carns
the country would be better off without 'em
(that would save another $1billion)
no cheers here
