as announced this morning
Castrol recalls brake fluid
Castrol Australia is voluntarily recalling an incorrectly packaged lubricant, warning its use will harm the performance of vehicles' braking systems.
The company is recalling the lubricant, which cannot be used as brake fluid.
It has been packaged in four-litre dark grey bottles and incorrectly labelled as Castrol Response Dot 4 brake fluid.
The company has warned that using the lubricant in the grey bottle would result in a "detrimental performance" of vehicles' braking systems.
The correctly labelled product for Castrol Response Dot 4 is a red bottle and this product is not being recalled.
Anyone who has purchased the recalled product should immediately contact the Castrol Customer Service phone line on 1800 681 099.

brakes/hydro clutches are designed to use a incompressible fluid that has a few magical properties like heat resistance and and well im not sure what the other benifits are. Basically though, i KNOW they eat paint if dot 4 or 5.1 and are silicone based if dot 5. i dont know about you but just going on the latter properties that sounds a shitload different to how engine lube and auto tranny fluid act.

The big thing is that anything else will boil at a much lower temp, so you might not realise until you start working the brakes and then all of a sudden not much happens when you pull the lever. Kinda like what happens when I cook the brakes on the racebike......

or it could be if they put the dot5 (blue stuff silcone based) in the wrong bottles and you mix it with the glcol stuff(everything else) it turns to jelly and roots your brakes.
