The latest of my novice maintainer experiences is the carby may have been to culprit of my problems or so we all thought. After many individuals contributing to resolving the problem and thanks for your contributions.

The bike has clocked up 52,000 ks and the carbies are original, air filter always fitted. However I will have a close look at butterfly valves on the throttle plates when I pull the carby out again soon.

Yes the carby was cleaned, jets checked for cleanliness, bowls are clean, needle and seat not worn, carby cleaned using NF Contact Cleaner, same stuff we use for the now retired Pig (F-111) and current Rhino (Super Hornet) cleaning agent.

Having a look at the manuals on line I have not seen if the acclerator cable is connected to either the top or lower link, my way of thinking it is probably the lower one, would this be correct?

Ok, I've used WD as suggested, kicked over the engine but before I checked the choke I noticed air being sucked from between the air box and carby.
