I have the V&H on my 76 z650 - the sound is pretty good (i wouldnt know what they sounded like back in the day) BUT you can take the guts out of the pipe by unscrewing a single nut.
The sound of exhaust running straight-through is deafening.

I think it would be easier to find a set of wheels that you like the look of - and use the rear swingarm and the USD forks from the same bike - saving yourself a whole lot of headaches when it comes to brakes, calipers etc. GSXR or an R1 are usually the choice. a few new projects actually - including a new baby - but the vintage bikes dont get any attention these days - too busy to look after them and give them the attention they deserve.

Great project mate. However i think the matt paint will let you down and you will be disappointed in the finish. I did it once and after a few sessions in the rain the paint became real rough. It also looks like the engine paint was done in a rush even in the photos you can see the heavy paint spots ...

i use this one and its great - has a plug you can attach somewhere under your fairing so you dont have to remove the seat when you want to plug into the charger

Gday mate - there is a pommy forum called oldskoolperformance.com and they have alot of projects where members streetfighter and turbo bandits and GSX's - they have some cool stuff on there. Might give you some inspiration.
