There was about 25 built or was that the MFP cars? anyway not many of them came out alive
They from memory were built in Dandenong Vic (MFP dunno about the interceptor). All the boys were worried the cops were actually gunna run these things on the street to catch them .lol.
Funny how the rumour got around

god i love that pub....

Jonno - Only 2 *Black on Black* cars built, all the MFP cars were 'Interceptors', and its actually never referred to in the film as *The Interceptor*, but *the last of the V8 interceptors....*
Max's MFP car was a V8, as was Charlie and Roops, but Sarse and Scuttle (the other 2 MFP bronze) had a 6-cylinder shitbox that was actually an ex-taxi from BlackCabs......it was bog-stock, right down to the smoke belching out the 'zorst.....

Should also be Mad max addictOr perhaps Team Mad max?

Interesting Triva # 125 - Max was a bike cop in the 'early' days, before an accident forced him into a car - there are some stills from pre-production of MM1 with Max and Goose both on bikes, and apparently a 'drag race' scene between Max and Goose, both on MFP Patrol bikes, was filmed but never used

Another link - an American outfit that imports old XB fords for Mad Max freaks in the USA to turn into Interceptors: http://www.madmaxcars.com
That car outside the Silverton pub doesn't have the funny fibreglass nose (like the one below) that the movie Mad Max car had. I've got a photo of a Ford panel van concept from the Melb or Sydney motor show circa 1977 that has the same wedge-shaped nose as the Mad Max car (though it looks pretty cruddy tacked onto the panel van body). I guess somebody in the aftermarket accessories industry must have been churning these things out at the time.

My dad had a yellow XB sedan at the time Mad Max came out. Unfortunately ours only had standard 14X6" wheels, chrome hubcaps, no stripes, a 200cid six, only one exhaust pipe and blew no smoke, so there was no convincing the other kids at school it was an Interceptor!

I think watching Mad Max as a kid started my love affair for ford coupes(xa-xc). Just recently sold my John Goss Special(miss it
).
Definitely one of the toughest looking cars ever made(incl US muscle cars) ....imho.
On a side note...i remember as a kid my uncle had a katana painted all black and kitted himself in all black gear complete with metal on shoulders of leather jacket(you would probably remember that gear gosling).

I've got an XA Superbird sitting in the garage at home that my father-in-law bought new 1973. Tis a thing of beauty, big and orange with a metallic brown bonnet and colour matched 12-slotters. Still has the original motor in it that runs fairly well, but needs a bit of head work.
