Helmet problem

Hey guys, i don't know if it happens to lots of you, but unfortunately i'm one of them, the problem is

how do ppl with glasses wear helmet? do they upsize their helmet by one or two just to fit the glasses? or is there special helmets that cater for that?

or somehow ppl cut or remove the cheek pad in the helmet so the arms of the glasses can fit thru?

Why don't you get different glasses? My helmet fits like a glove "snug" and I wear sunnies inside it with no drama. Of course I put the glasses on "after" the helmet is on. Doesn't work the other way.

I bought metal framed oakley sunnies and had to give up wearing them on the bike after 1 day, cause the arms kept getting bent.

I know a few people on here wear glasses, it prob comes down to the style of glasses and helmet..

You might be able to press into the helmet with something right where the frames sit so that the padding has abit more movement behind it.. dunno if that's a goer or not but short of cutting the lining it's prob about all you could do..

Your not wear Dame Edna Everage glasses are ya??? Cause no way those giant things will fit...

well.......i upsized by helmet by one, just for the sake of glasses, but when time goes by , the wear of lining shows and the helmet is now becoming loose, it's only been 2 months.

i found that wearing sunnies in my helmet would eventually give me a headache.

without the sunnies its fine. its probably just my glasses though.

I got a tinted lense now so thats my problem solved.

that doesnt help at all to answer your question though.

My Shoei TZ1 seems to have no trouble fitting my glasses frames. What brand/model helmet have you got?

you should never upsize your lid to fit glasses - rather you need to get your lenses fitted to helmet-friendly 'frames' . ie frames with thin metal arms and good strong hinges. Its the only way around this problem.

I will not ride without sunglasses, and always look for a style with the thinnest arms out there, these will work and not give you a headache. Normally you get a headache because the thick arms press tight against your temples......

Talk to your optometrist, he should be able to sort out a decent frame to suit your lenses.

Its not a good idea to upsize ur helmet for the sake of ur glasses, are the glasses u r talking about prescription, maybe go to opsm and get a frame that is a size smaller, i've worn glasses for many years now and had the same problem when i 1st bought a helmet, its a real paint the the a*** when u cant focus properly, i now have contact lenses when i ride but on windy days they can dry out, where abouts in melbourne are you by the way lindsay

I found before i got a tinted visor that metal frames would bend and basically be a bastard to get on.
But frames like the one found on Oakley Fives were easier to get on and more comforable to wear inside your lid.

i am with Gos here
no problems with helmets (AGV Shoei etc)
and I ALWAYS ride with glasses
...sunnies or if dull, yellow safety glasses
but
the arms are thin...and slide in after I put the helmet on
get some professional help if you still have an issue!

I wear prescription glasses or prescription sunglasses at all times. My sunglasses and usual glasses have a thin metal frame and these slide well between the helmet and my head, causing no headaches. I also have a couple of pairs of plastic framed glasses, these I can't wear under the helmet. When you next go to the optometrist for new glasses (and if you are in Brisbane, see my sister at Eyecare Plus at either Ascot or Springwood) take your helmet with you to try the glasses on underneath.

mate..i agree re getting a bigger lid...and as u now kno..its getting loose cos the paddings softening up...
i use to have probs finding sunnies i could wear under a lid, and therefore gave up...tho as i have really sooky eyes with bright light, ive had to start doing it...
ive found my old Oakley "twenty" work a treat...they are comfy underneath,...and i got a new pair for every day use (u get chips in em, the rubber arm sleeves rip etc..but they were 4 yrs old neway)...
also with my lid (xlite) theres heaps of room for them, unlike my old arai,agv or axo which all made my head hurt (same sunnies)...
can u get glasses with a oakley frame ?? (i would if i had to get googles)

There's another thread here with lots of opinions & good advoce in it as well, hit the old search function for that one ,

Anyway get small metal frame Glasses. i have polaroid self timting perspex prescription glasses, get the spring loaded arm frames but not the titanium flexie arms.
Then with helmet in hand, head to your local opthalmic dispenser for a fitting,. they can shrten & bend the arms to fit. May take a coupla visits to get them sorted for long use but its worth it.
Oh on another point i found the frames with movable nose rests stay back on your face better inside the helmet.
