Shaving the weight off...

Race glass is supposed to arrive today.....waiting...

But in the mean time i broke out the kitchen scales and weighed all the road stuff I'm able to dispense with on a trackie.

Lost 11.9kg so far, more than i expected.

When i recieve the race glass i will deduct that and that will give me ball park figure for the bikes new dry weight.

Any other tips for weight saving you racers?

I'll be pretty stoked if i can get it below 150kg dry (161kg standard).

No diet jokes either...i don't need to be any skinnier!!

Rims apparently really help.... The 05 Rims are lighter by a few ounces... apparently that is reaaally important... There are after market rims you can get too...

Obviously having less fuel during a race helps....

I take it you have removed the rear seat pegs....... and the rear light assembly, the headlight assembly, etc etc...

I'll have to weigh the stock pipe and the sports one to check difference in weight.

funny you may mention that ardvark you can get titanium bolt sets for the brakes and pinch polts and aluminium for the big sucker that goes throught the middle of the front wheel.

I would reckon that costs money though and i cant see varden loosing much weoght without cutting off his left leg or something.

Also if your going 100% track with the bike, consider redoing the wiring harness and remove some of the non essential wiring, like headlights, indicator, brakelights and if your going to do it at 100% loss (i.e. no charging cct, just a manual recharge the battery via a socket under the seat) then remove the stator, regulator rectifier and associated wiring and you'll loose a kilo or three there.

Be careful removing stuff from the loom. If you ever want to race it in SS u will need it to be std.

When I used to have a rally car a fellow competitor spent thousands of $$ gettting the lightest and the latest. I had to laugh cause his navigator weighed in at over 120kgs, therefore replacing all the lost weight in one fell swoop.

Varden, sounds like ya gettin there but your to bloody tall....you act like a sail in the wind so get a 2 inch hole saw & drill some hole through ya chest, this will greatly improve your aerodynamic ability & should equate to 3 or 4 k's down the straight

Replace the screen with gladwrap & make a new swingarm out of Alfoil. Brown paer bags & paper mashee the seat. Oh & remove every other piston ... you're too bloody fast for the "flying flatspot" anyway.
