MP3's on the road? yoos don't do you ?

Post by chameleon »

Does anyone here cruse down the highway/freeway with their favorite music? Ol mate, on his shadow, rides around redland bay listening to mp3s  I nearly farking *CHOKED* when he told me but I didn't say anything cause I had already nagged him about riding squidlike in his tanktop and open-face.

When I was getting back into riding, and being over 40, everyone was warning me about the stats, deaths etc for the returners. Now I think I can see where some of em come from :x

I dont at all. When I first got licenced I thought about getting an mp3 player for the 30min country road ride to work every day but now i wouldnt bother. If something unusual happened I want to be as alert as possible...not a smear on the road.

When I'm at working, I ride around with my radio squawking through my helmet headphones all the bloody time. It's interesting when you're cruising through the hills, the radio has been quiet all day, then all of a sudden someone calls. Scares the fark outta ya!!!

Yeh i do on the long runs but not around the city or on the good twisty bits of road.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I did once, then I got to ~40kmh and I couldn't hear the music over the wind noise, so I havent bothered since.

I find that nearly all of my concentration is spent on riding and avoiding possible accident situations anyway, so I dont get bored or restless to begin with.

What Narfie said, I find it bloody distracting when "giving tiggr the pills in the hills though" So if it's less then an overniter i dont bother.

Ive just started using the ipod on the freeway.
I wouldnt mess around with it on short trips or round town though.

I also wouldnt use it if i was riding corners or anything challenging.

I find it isnt loud enough anyway. I need to research decent ear plugs for it.

I have it set up so i can control the settings (stop, FF, Rew etc). That way if the traffic gets heavy or something comes up i can turn it off to concentrate. Or if a song sux i can Fast forward it.

Hmmmm. A real mixed bag of replies here. 50/50 almost on the open road? I love music in the car, gees me up and passes the time but I had thought it would be a bit suss on 2 wheels, guess not for some :) My helmet is a bit noisey at speed too so I think for that reason and "personal FEAR issues" I'll leave them alone for now.

I did my research on the various Ipod forums and Shure seem to be the go.

Just got some newys for mine , Shure EC2's farkin fantastic.
Stock Ipod buds are shit in comparison......cost $100 of an ebay store, retail at $150 usually but well worth it.These puppies isolate exterior noise and seal the ear canal to pump the tunes straight INTO your head.when they are in the don't move a mm ya can't even yank em out.No wind noise, but I don't use mine when riding cus I think its dangerous enough when youve got yor hearing.

There are some big brothers in the Shure range that retail up too $400 for a pair of earbuds

Sorry for hijack, thought this might help

The fact that you'll be deaf by your next birthday doesn't bother you?
