Suspension Mods on a ZX-6

Post by gray_rm »

Went for a spin along Macquarie Pass to Kangaroo Valley on Sunday (poured like Noah through the Nasho!) and noticed around the corners I was starting to 'wallow' a bit, slightly wobbly and a bit 'flat' in the rear.

It's been suggested I look at changing the suspension, which is probably suited to someone petite and delicate and 70kg, not some fat old bastard who weights 100kg fully kitted out.

Can anyone recommend a place I can go in Sydney to get this sussed?

Thanks!
Richard

You should be able to get it pretty right yourself.
Wind the preload up until you get about 30 to 35mm of sag (how much the bike drops with you sitting on it from fully extended).
Try that and if its not quite right, start adding a little compression and adjusting the rebound until you like it...

Unless you can't get it right with your current springs and want the shock rebuilt and new valves in the forks (about $1200) you can do it yourself. If you haven't touched it from stock, it won't be right and can be improved significantly without spending a cent...

Not that I'm a complete goose, but what the heck does that mean?
I am considered armed and dangerous with a screwdriver...
Can't I get one of those great Ohlins things? I gotta bling my baby up a little bit?
