The guy builds a lot of kwaka drag bikes so knows a thing or two about a motor. He does late model service work and tyres and all sorts. He has been cheap, honest and reliable in all my dealings with him. He also did some work on a mate's R1, which none of the Yamaha dealers could diagnose or rectify, and charged him feck all for it too. Only thing is his Frontage is Old School. No flashy point of sale crap, just a small shop, with a few accessories mounted on a peg board wall, an oil stand, and loads of Z1000's all over the joint. His name is Shannon from memory.

Wonder if he was the guy who used to have a shop up by the Harp in Kew.... he had butloads of "real" Z1000's too....

I just got mine done by a biek shop in Fairfield (it was close and I won't give work to the Kwwaka dealer in the city anymore) and frankly, think they have done a pretty shite job, not happy Jan!

Bike will be going back there real soon.

Is where I got a front tyre fitted which developed into a tank slapper so hence not going back there. Bike will go back to Fairfield so they can fix whatever they fucked up, the thing sounds like a fookin Volkswagon!!!!

Picked the 12 up from Race Replica today. Had it in there to get pinging problem sorted. Aparently it spent a lot of time on the dyno getting the PC3 mapped, plus throttles were balanced. Ended up with a $396 bill.
At home I plugged my laptop in to find that they used one of the STANDARD maps you get with the pc3.
It was a map for a euro zx12r with no mods. Not a single value had been altered! So I don't see how he could have spent ages tuning it on the dyno when nothing was changed. I found this out as they didn't alter the map description (European Model with stock pipe and stock filter) so then i searched my pc3 cd for a map with the same description and spent a while comparing the two maps to find no values altered.
On the up side, the bike is running great and the pinging problem is fixed, but I don't think it was worth 400bux.

RACE REPLICA SERVICE AND TUNING

Post by racereplica »

Hi Guys,

Kris from Race Replica here. Seems there is a bit of confusion about whats been happening down here so I thought I'd better shed some light on the situation. Until recently we had 2 Mechanics - Kon & Dave and a Service Manager/Mechanic - Rhys. About 6 weeks ago Kon decided to leave Race Replica to work with his brother. A couple of weeks after that I was forced to sack Rhys on the spot as he lied to me on a grand scale and I could no longer trust him to work for me. Unfortunately this left us with only one Mechanic. As Kon left here on very good terms he has been working here many evenings after he finishes work. He has been starting at 6pm and finishing between 11pm and 1am to get through the work (along with Dave doing 9 - 5.30) and keep our customers happy. We are usually booked about a week in advance for servicing and have 4-6 crash repairs or rebuilds on the go at any one time plus daily assembly of new bikes and tyre fitting / puncture repairs. Unfortunately for some customers who needed work done urgently I was forced to tell them that we were unable to do the work as we were flat out finishing the bikes that were here or already booked in. This may not have been explained well to some customers by my staff. I tried to explain the situation to any customers I spoke to personally and all staff were informed of the situation. I don't wish to deal with individual jobs here but I believe we dealt with the situation as best we could and each job has been completed thoroughly and professionally. We now have a new Mechanic - Ben, who is very experienced and professional in his work and I'm sure he will become a great member of our team and an asset to the shop.

Running a Dealership/Workshop is not an easy task. It is a very competitive industry with relatively small margins and you always seem to need more staff to be able to give every customer the best service possible and it is difficult to find staff experienced in the Motorcycle Industry. Almost every shop I know is looking for a good Mechanic! However, this would force us to increase our prices substantially to cover the increased costs. There may be times when a customer has to wait to be served or we cant fit their bike in straight away. However, this enables us to keep our prices affordable to everyone and we always try to fit in emergencies where possible.

I welcome any feedback both positive and negative (some positive would be nice as I know there are a lot of satisfied customers out there!) :D
We are now back to normal with the workload so give us a call if you need anything done.
My apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced or unhappy over the last month.

Kris

sounds fair enough to me.
unfortunately news of "bad" service travels quicker and farther than good service, but well done for setting things straight.

good luck with it all in the future.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I'll stick my hand up say that I've always been treated well. Whilst it may not be the most glamorous of shops to look at compared to the likes of the other city dealers you guys always have what I've wanted.

Was in just last Wednesday getting the usuals for me to do a minor service on the 636. Price was reasonable for the oil ($3 more than I paid elsewhere but that was 6 months ago, prices move I guess), plugs were no problem. Came to the filter and the nice chick upstairs (sorry, name escapes me) took the extra step to find out why the original filter was superseeded and now double the price. Anyone else would have just asked for my hard earned and left it, but she took the time to make sure and found out that her price was wrong and should have been the same as the older part, at $12.00. Win for me, and I left smiling.

Whilst I haven't dealt with the mechanical side of things, instore service has always been fine.

Good on ya Kris for setting things straight. I have had a few people chasing Rhys's no, and yes i was unsure of what was going to happen after he was gone. I personally have never had any bad dealings with your store and i am sure i never will.
