Finally some good luck

Post by MadKaw »

I thought I'd share, (as opposed to gloat, I would never do that) as I had a bit of luck and things actually worked out as expected...
I bought a pair of Gaerne booots and a HJC helmet on ebay a few weeks ago.
The boots were yellow as was the helmet but the misses liked the look of the helmet and I figure I could dye the boots. I took a punt as it only cost $120 for both.
The helmet was too big for the misses so that was a waste, but we cleaned up the boots and dyed them black, they came out really well, they were in great condition to start with.
So far $120 + dye of $15 for a $250 pair of boots, not bad.
I then put the helmet back on ebay and just sold it for $105...
So now its only $30 for the boots, great value..
To add to my good fortune I just got an e-mail from Xena, the alarm lock ppl, saying I have just won a lock and they will be sending it out... 8)
I've had a bad run of late so its about time I had a win...

Good work. How did you go about dying the boots? I'm thinking of playing with my jacket to change a grey stripe into a green one.

great job there.

did you use the paint on dye or the spray on dye???

i find the one you paint on with a special soft bristle brush to avoid streaking works great

I went to Mr Minute (shoe repair / key cutter in the shopping ctr) and bought a 50ml bottle of stripper and a 50ml bottle of Dye N shine.
Just wipe the stripper over the area and then rub off. It doesn't remove all the colour just the surface so the dye will take. Then brush on the dye (it has a brush in the lid) and let it dry. Give it another coat if necessary, mine didn't, and then just wipe it down to polish it...
It was pretty easy.
Not sure about changing a dark colour to light one though.?

The misses then did a pair of her shoes.... :?

I used to import leathers and rejuvenating dyes 10-14 years ago, but since then havn't bothered to find where to get it. It's nice to know Mr. Minute has it! I have an old set of leathers that could still be used if I adjusted some of the .....err....interesting colours!!!!   Thanks for the post and good to hear that some luck has finally come your way. :D

I've got some Gaerne boots and they have so far lasted me 5.5 years without any maintenance.... They are close to the end of their useable life but considering I have worn them pretty much every day for the last 3 years and every second day for the two years before that, that is pretty bloody good... I got them for free too :)
The world is round. It has no point.
