memories here

yeah I had one
skinny tyres (130/80 rear)
crap (nonadjustable) suspension
small brakes
bicycle frame (well..it felt like it)
and about 115hp

great in a straight line (if your clutch could take it)
but corners...geeezers

thanks for the memories..of how bad they were
and how good bikes are nowadays

Imagine 1 on ya 12R

some have done it and you have an A1 it is the full unrestricted model but watch ya lightish crank and ya stator wire mate!

me thinks the 12R as standard....
is a vast improvement over a 750Turbo

can't really see a reason for a hairdryer on a 12
..unless I was racing it

somewhere in the SBS archives, is footage of Bathurst, Easter 1984. The SBS chopper was filming the dunny block at the back of McPhillamy Park........probably zooming in on the burning bike surrounded by hordes of filthy biker scumbags........

That burning bike was....................an XJ 750 Turbo !! almost brand-new, the guy dropped it doing a burnout right next to the dunny block, fuel spilt out of the tank............and the next second WHOOMPAH up she went.

Well old mate tried his best to put it out, while the rest of us just cheered. He was consoled somewhat with the advice that the insurance would pay for a replacement bike....and joined us in cheering the burning wreck.

That old footage would also include a young hoodlum *mooning* the chopper....

over and over again

The Yammie turbo was a bit of a dog really......the Kawasaki 750 Turbo was the pick of the bunch of the turbo bikes back in the 80's.....

I too am one of the sorry souls that owned a OE turbo bike.
Mine was the XN85 Suzuki which was a 673cc fuel injected (yes way back in 1983) weapon.
It wasnt bad but a standard GSX750 Katana was just as good without all the electricery on it.
Mind you for the time it was state of the art, with fuel injection, turbo charging, box section swing arm and frame (which was stock on the future 750 Katana's).
Its down fall was the weigt of the thing, something like 240kg's and it was looooooong !!
Should have kept it, it would have heaps of novelty value now !!
I used to get the shits when people called it a Katana, not not as bad as when someone calls my GPX a bloody GPZ (though I do love them as well !) though .

750 Turbo is the only dream bike from my youf I didnt end up owning eventually.
Got a ride on one (the barstard got it off his uncle from shed storage) and BOY has time moved on

STILL looked the SHIT but.....

They had a very special shade of red didnt they....

I got home on Friday 2nd June to find a 750 turbo parked next to my zzr. its in very average condition and looks like its been up our equivalent of the Gunbarrel Hwy (The Borefield Road).

Here are some pics, too bad the faring hids the good bits, but note the fuel injection and LCD boost and fuel gauges.
