Counter rotating brake rotors!

Post by Strika »

Check this out. I read about this somewhere recently and just tracked down the website. The theory being that the opposite rotation of the disc counters to some degree the centrifical forces of the wheel and tyre.?? Maybe some of the more analytical souls in here have a more thorough working knowledge of centrifical force and rotating mass as applied to things two wheeled!!! :D

kerrrist...
I just spent 15 minutes reading thru all that....
and the idea might be fine
but geezers..the justification and reasoning is all wrong

the geezer writing all that seems to forget the golden rule....
centrifugal (read gyroscopic) force is stronger the
FURTHER an object is away from the point of rotation and
is stronger the HEAVIER the object is.

so counter rotating discs might be a good idea
but NOT if the wheel and rim is heavy

so lighten up the items furthest from the axle
(tyre and rim) and you do more to overcome the gyroscopic
force he complains about..than counter rotating discs.

things for thought-
why do people chase light weight rims for their bikes?
and if it was a good idea...why not use ONE disc rotor
on all bikes? (problem solved)

my 2c

cheers
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

Surely any advantages would be offset by the extra UNSPRUNG weight to drive it??
Better spending your cash on CF rims I reckon (and look so much more bling  ).
Nice idea but...
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

Sounds like a genuine novel idea :D. Would love to try that !

But let's not make things easier to ride than it already is ... takes the fun out things. I heard that Buells are so easy to turn that they're so boring ?

naah Andi
its coz they only have ONE front disc..therefore
according to his theory.... making 'em easier to turn

The rationale is not because of one front disc, though. I think the guy created a counter-rotating mass to offset the rim's rotation. Clever, but added weight I think ...

nah its cos there abt 60hp underpowered for the weight they have that they are boring!!

if these perimeter discs were all the rage, and worked so bloody good..wh yarent they running em on rossi's bike??

my theory has always been- race teams get more $$ to research with than researchers!! so what works for honda/yamaha etc...is good enuf for me..
