riding on a flat tyre
ok got to my bike the other night after work and the tyre was flat. it was 4 psi when I got to the servo.
It's only a slow leak from a bit of metal. not a nail, hard to tell what it is exactly, it's still in there.
planning on getting it plugged cos there's still a couple of thousand k's on the tyre.
but...
having ridden it while pretty much flat I recall reading that this will damage the tyre. so what's the story?
what is actually damaged and what are the possible consequences ?
would you commute on it for another month?
going to go to race replica to get it done ... thought I'd check them out since Kris has been posting here.

Re: riding on a flat tyre
How far and how fast? If you only limped it to the servo across the road, it won't be a problem. If you rode it 20km at 60kph, the lip of the rim will have ground the folded-over sidewalls to dust, and the tyre will only be good for being doused petrol and placed around a speed camera housing.smek wrote:having ridden it while pretty much flat I recall reading that this will damage the tyre. so what's the story?
If there's only a couple of thousand kms of tread left in the tyre, I'd chuck it. Plugs seem to have a habit of coming off worn tyres...

any more than a few Ks...and the sidewalls are stuffed!
the rim bead would be chewing up the tyre
so it would only be good for a Gatso necklace

GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

haha classic!Hey I heard about this throwing a burning tyre over a speed camera and thouhgt I'd try it out.
Well alll I can say is I tried and tried but the bloody thing kept sliding off the roof and the cop was none to happy.... Laughing
oh and quite impressed with race replica too. Even though I didn't get anything major done to judge them on. the service was good and they're a friendly bunch.
the zx14 aint too bad in the flesh either, not quite my cup of tea though.
