Thanks all for the input
i will be taking Leanne on the bike again no doubt
As for the comfort of the rear seat i couldnt tell you but Leanne said it was excellent and she was a good pillion
think i would be more relaxed if it wasnt damp and slippery on the road and there was a bit of wind

more worried about seeing her dad if i had of thrown it down the road
but wont be upgrading the bike just for pillion comfort
plus her mum thinks it looks hot but then again she thinks i look like i'm 32 yrs old go figure ........ ok so the bike is hot but 32 as if
hehehehhe

and Dan
there are no orange lines on the tyres anymore
Pilot powers have blue ones
and the chicken strips have got narrower since the insurance policy was approved i have to say

and yes mate i know very slack mate.....have to pick up my stuff ..... but in my defence i have worked 8 out of 10 weekends
and been studing .... yes had a exam tonight ........ done 3 courses for work and seem to be working double the hrs

but the tax man and child support agency love me

i'll call you on the weekend mate
Lucas
TRUST ME! I'VE SEEN THIS DONE ON T.V.......

its all about pillion wheelies, comes up so damn easy :P

i dont think my bike is the most pillion friendly by any means, but i know a chick who loves coming on the bike and she loves it, so it cant be too bad i guess!

on bigger rides pillions suck, its alot more work with a pillion on if u ask me :(

I love the 10 for pilloning. I have one friend that loves bikes, she's a great pillon. She's on her L's but loves the 10. I've had my knee scrapping plenty of times with her on the back. Its fine. Only thing though, is your wrists get a bit sore with the weight on the back pushing forward after a long ride.

i've taken her on the 6R too, which has a bigger seat, handles to hold, but she loves the 10 way more. Doesnt enjoy the 6, she says... Who am I to argue...

kypez,
if i remember right, you dont own leathers so what are you doing scraping your knee with only draggins on.. photos or it didnt happen.

mitch, its not a lot of work with a pillion, it just takes time and practice before it becomes easier, not just for you but for the one on the back as well.

mohawk miss, spot on, the rider's got to tell the pillion what to do before climbing on back, smooths out the ride before it even starts!

stereo, having some one on back is more fun... i kid you not.

guys,
not happy with what im seeing here... seriously, some of you say its the pillion, some of you blame the bike (be it a 10 or a 6 or whatever) but have you thought it might be your riding?

there's a few tricks to being good with a pillion on back, first two are to make said pillion feel safe with your riding AND keep your riding *SMOOTH*, that means during gear upchanges, braking and downshifts. by smooth, i mean the throttle is not like a light switch and the brake lever is not there for stoppies only, and dont forget the damn rear brake, believe me, the rear brake helps a shitload and not just for solo riding.

next, pillion's knees on the rider's sides are not good, the rider's going to feel like he's bolted to the seat, best to have the knees barely touching the rider's sides and have your hands at the rider's sides, not to hold on but so you can grab his sides if youre not expecting a burst of acceleration, or if braking suddenly you can slam your hands on the tank without sliding into the rider.. and move the body (from waist up) forwards (on acceleration) and backwards (under brakes) in accordance with bike movement, how much movement the pillion will have to figure out. pillion wont learn all this overnight but practice will make it work. another problem pillions have is keeping boots on the pegs, try sticking your calves in between ducktail and pegs, in order to stop feet from bouncing on the pegs on less than smooth roads. that'll also help on acceleration.

and the rider needs to stiffen up the rear shock a bit, not necessarily preload.. just turn the compression in a couple clicks and maybe one more on rebound to slow down the shock action.... or just get an ohlins and your problems are solved

attached some photos... bike's the old zx9 before i traded it in... and thats the 55 kilo missus on the back.

NOTE - in no way am i encouraging reckless riding with pillions so please, ride safe and sensibly (no lectures) and keep the rubber on the ground, shiny side up or however the saying goes.

What you need to do before pillioning

KNOW that it is going to handle like shit (well worse)
KNOW that it is going to brake like shit (HEAPS worse)
KNOW you wont change direction as quick
etc. etc.
Um, frog.

No. Not worse. Quite the opposite.
Except for braking, sure it takes a bit longer to stop but the point is you prepare _earlier_ to stop.

I dont... I have a set of sliders that stick to velcro strap things. Dont know how else to put it. You strap the pad on your jeans via 3 velcro straps and your sliders stick to it.

it was your pic that made me try it out.. if you can, why cant I... I'll post pics, give me till its dry again...

Then you can kiss my arse!!!
