Any advise would be good as he has short legs, no fear and he is a very quick learner. 2.5yrs old started to ride without training wheels and only took him 20mins (then asked if i could teach him to do wheelies).

Kids Mini Bike ????
Has anybody out there had any experiences with the mini bike sector. I wanted to get one for the little guy (3.5yrs). I but unsure re quality there seems to be a lot of the cheap versions from China, are these any good or do they crap themselves after 15mins of running? The style i was looking at was the roadbike and then governing the speed. As for the fairings i would remove them untill they are green/and they little guy is more acustomed to riding.

I bought my 3 year old one of the dirt bikes so he could ride it around the yard.
There fine for his age and just cruising around, but I have replaced the pull starter once and the clutch springs twice and the clutch plates once. The std spark plugs are crap and the fuel filter was on the wrong way.
I'd say I've spent more time fixing it and trying to start it than he has riding it..
We had training wheels on it for a while as its a bit big for him.
It cost $230...

Geez mate so if he wanted to skydive would you buy him a parachute ??
3 and a half years, you have the makings of a Rossi there.
Mate they are bloody dangerous, the first one I bought bent the swing arm! Admittedly at the track but still, 3 f*cken laps!! And I weigh under 70kg.
They can highside you BIG time, just cause they are small doesnt mean the buggers wont break bones etc.
Whatever you get, pull it to pieces and make sure they have BEARINGS and they have grease (I kid you not). Also if something seems DUMB as, it is (for example breather valves in the radiator in back the front so they pump the coolant OUT on one chinese KTM50 copy) and if it is TOO cheap IT IS.
The reason Yam and Honda Peewees are relatively dearer is BACKUP, QUALITY, and you can SUE the barstards if it flies to peices or leaves your kid crippled through faults.
Not much consolation I admit, but at least it is a CONSIDERATION when they built it, try and follow up a chink pockety
BUT they are a LOT of fun, but the age DOES have me worried....
Make sure you get him ALL the GOOD gear PLEASE !!!!!

Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

Fucking just typed out a big response to this and then the stupid POS work computer crapped out on me.
Anyway I bought one of the better Chinese ones with a better than average engine in it, cost me $600 with a spare engine, for my 5 year old son. The engine is bloody strong, the thing pulls power wheelies with me on it! But it is hardly used coz I bought it for the boy, and he hasn't ridden it by himself yet. It is cheaply made. With very little use it has a broken front brake caliper and a broken chain, the chain on these things is a joke, as are the sprockets. Everything is cheaply made, but that is how they make them cheap I guess, as well as the fact that the workers are paid in rice not money....
Need to get the parts and fix it up to see if he can ride it yet now.

My 2 girls have mini bikes.
The little one ,5years old, has a Yamaha peewee 50 which she still hasn't ridden on her own, prob due to my slackness, and the older one races
her KTM 50 pro senior which fly's for a fifty.
both well made bikes. but you pay for it

Bought my young fella a second-hand Yamaha pee wee 50 2yrs ago now and it has just gone and gone and gone without a problem (except that at 5 he can start it himself). Well worth the 280 I paid for it and with some of the stories I've heard would say it is the way to go.
The only thing to check with them is the frame, up near the head stem the frames will start to crack, even break if they are continuously ridden by adults, you'll need to pull the tank off to check.
They do have a weight restriction and adults riding them and doubling kids around is not what they've intended for though it happens quite often.

From the sound of it the imports are a real piece of crap and would be suitable for an aprentice not a "junior Rossi"/ Crusty Demon. Looks like he will need to be good if he wants one for Xmas.
Until then he will need to settle for rides on th back of dads up and down the drive way and wheelies on the pushy.
And dad is going to find another reason to buy another bike
Thank you.
