When it runs out of fuel, stop using it, fuels too expensive.

Perhaps get it converted to gas?

gas maybe not, but im sure he's full of hot air.

seriously though, press the cap down firmly on the outside of the cap with one hand, and turn the key with the other hand, do NOT put anything other than light pressure on the key and just turn it clockwise, dont force it if it puts up some resistance, you may need to just press harder on the tank. I've bent a key slightly doing it the wrong way, btw its more prone to having that happen if its a new key/barrel, once its worn in a bit, its easy as hell.

dont use wd40 by itself, that may work on it now now, but eventually it will gum up and make it a bitch to turn later, perhaps that is what someone else used.

best idea i can give is if you DO use WD40 (or inox, that is more expensive, but a LOT better) to loosen it out, keep the cap open to let extra lube out afterwards, and then use GRAPHITE fluid to lubricate it, basically the fluid is jsut a carrier for the graphite powder, which lubricates the keyhole, even when the keyhole is bone dry, none of this gumming up issue your encountering.

btw do you have a spare key, have you tried that one in the fueltank?

i find that if it rains and water gets under the latch and into the key hole and can rust up.

Otherwise if i fill up and let the tank it run to empty which takes about week and the lock hasn't been sitting in the fuel, then it dries up and get tight. Just fill up to the brim so the lock and let the lock sit in the fuel and should lube it up!
