Tyres Again

Post by KLR »

Sorry but just my 2cents, have decided to go the 014/020 combination on my 9R.

Why you ask? Longevity!!! and decent handling, my 9R is currently shod with 020's and have about 8000 on them and the front is now just getting a bit low in tread depth so thought may as well replace both.

Now speaking to a few dealers/tyre joints I am now a convert to the guy at Goodna, even though I will need a packed lunch and a full tank to get out there but it will be worth it.

I got a quote from several places and the cheapest I could find was $430 big ones fitted but the dude at Goodna has quoted me $359 fitted.

Now I don't know if they are tyres that fall off the "bridgestone" truck but $359 sounds good and he seems to know what he is talking about.

Mica if you are talkin about Mick @ MTM(Goodna) don't worry too much as he is a top bloke and definitely knows his stuff. No one can beat his prices and well worth a trip out there. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I think thats the 014/020 is a good combination. I'll probably use the same combination when Im due for new tyres. Ive got 014's front and rear currently, and the 014 rear is already flat in the middle from my trip to PI. Ive never had problems with the 020 on the rear when I had my ZRX, (got 11000ks and a couple of trackdays out of it) but the 020 front tyres are shockers - Id never use an 020 on the front again. The 014s are great for the front so far.

I didnt like the feel, or lack of feel that the fronts gave me. When I went to the 012SS front, I was blown away by how much confidence they provided as opposed to the 020's. The 020's get good mileage, but the fronts tend to 'cup' a lot more than any other tyre Ive seen.

Yeah the 012 SS are great. I have them on both front and rear(awesome). I reckon its ok to run a harder rear(wear rate factor) but definitely run something softer on the front for cornering confidence.
When i first got my 7 it had D205....farkin touring tyres...WTF....and i had no confidence in leaning the bike over(cornering). What a difference tyres make and from now on only use ultraperformance tyres(i.e sticky rubber  ) but then again its only a wkd toy and dont have to worry about wear rate.

I am the same, I have an 020 on the front and hate it.

It makes a whirring noise when leaning into corners and does not give me any confidence whatsoever.

In my decisions I have decided to go with Pilot Powers!!! I know I know I change my mind as often as Neka falls off but have spoken to a shitload of people and about 80% of people think they are the ducks guts!!

So just called Mick at Goodna and he is going to do them for $370 fitted!!

Closest I could get to that figure was $450

mate, u couldnt change ur mind THAT much surely??
i rode jamies bike the other day while he was in sydney, since my car was farked...noticed how sweet it felt, then realised hes running pilot powers..the front is shagged past the wear marker (he doesnt waste much rubber) and they still handled ever so sweet...wonderin why i went to bridgies...i still got a set of 6 month old bridgie bt012 on my bike with only 300km on em!!

I'm about to try the 014/020 combination from this weekend.
Got a new 020 for the rear last weekend thinking that the front would last a bit more - but as I'm planning a longish ride on sunday I figured I better not risk it ;) so I'm getting a front 014 on saturday and will see how it goes.
I've had no problems with the feel of the 020 really - though maybe I've just gotten used to it - still gets me around the OPH and EC pretty quick.
I did notice a marked difference when I tried a 012 - I'm hoping the 014 feels as good as the 012 but wears a bit better. Only got 4000k out of the 012.
Just got 14000k out of the 020's front and rear. I don't expect the 014 to compete with that, but hopefully it will do better than 4000k
