Get the gist of what you are all saying….
I am 6’4” and weigh 100kg. I have owned & ridden many bikes from motocross to road bikes (YZ 80, CR 250, KX 250, XL 600, Z1000 MK2, GPZ 900, ZX 1100).
My preference these days is for track riding (as I like to keep my license).
If thats what you do then you will kick yourself if you bought anything but a ten!!! What an absoultely awesome track day tool. If ya buy it, can I have a ride???/ Please please pretty please........I'll even let you ride my ten year old old dunger track hack 600 as contra!!!!!!
let ME have a ride too...
no..the point was...why not buy a track toy AND a road toy??
hehe im thinking new car or new roadie..cbr becomes my "track hack"

I had the same dilemma until three weeks ago. Not a bad predicament to be in but still a decision had to be made. I love the look of the new 10 with the ohlins, under seat exhaust etc etc. It was awesome to ride but as previously mentioned I had a go of the 12 and fell for it.
I recently broke my wrist in a dirt bike saga and I could really feel it once I got off the 10. I was willing to put up with the pain just to have it but found the 12 suited my riding style better.
They were very similar in price when I was looking. I have not been disappointed at all and I am looking forward to the trip to Phillip Island.

As far as being competitive is concerned, I still race at club level against the modern stuff. Last outing before I blew it up (Overreved it when ti 1.slipped outta gear, and 2. wheelspan in the wet) I got a third against the modern SBK's. Mind it was at a tight track, which takes away the SBK's power advantage to some degree. So they are not slow, I guess is what I am saying.

Hmmm, I dunno. I still think the more powerful the better for the track. I may have to race something slower in the future due to budget constraints, but will still always think of SBKs as the ultimate.....
Now as for the road, I don't mind have less power there. I don't have the best self-control when it starts getting fast and fun. If it has more power I will use it.

If you read those crash statistics from the Hurt Report, your less likely to actually be involved in a crash on a larger capacity bike, than on a smaller capacity bike. The flip side of course to that, is that the report also states that if you do crash one, you're more likely to die!HemiDuty wrote:Hmmm, I dunno. After riding a litre sports bikes on that long 170 k ride we did on Sunday............. I really don't think I rode it any faster than I did my old 636. But it was easier, cause I didn't need to be as commited in the turns, and could rely on the right wrist to make it up. Lazy riding, very lazy riding. Gear changes naturally were something you didn't need to do, as they have loads of grunt. However I did keep it between 7-10 most of the day, just to enjoy it while I had it available
So, go get the fastest most powerful thing you can find/want/afford and enjoy I reckon!!!!! Bikes are supposed to be mental I think!!

well when i rode them the zx10 and R1 were the 2 i liked best, I also really liked the MV but seeing as I could have a zx10 AND and R! for the same price it has to be penalised somewhat.Strika wrote:They make it sound like an R1 in green Phil!!!Phil wrote:you may wanna read this test...

the 10 feels like its got a little more power than the r1, but at 160 + RWHP its all relative i guess.
