I'm with Ian on this one .... I will nod to anybody, HD, scooter and chookie included .... they may not return the favour, but that says more about them than anything else.
Try it, you just may find that somebody you normally would have ignored nods back and makes your day, and if they dont, what has it really cost you ?
well, that's my 2 cents, now it's back under a rock for me !

There is a reason Harley riders dont wave.... It's because of all them horrid vibrations. You take one hand off the bars, and you suddenly find yourself off the back of the bike and on the bitumen because you can't hold on!
I have had Harley riders nod before. I always return the courtesy.
Other than nodding / waving, the other done thing is to stop and see if someone is ok if you see a bike stopped on the side of the road. This is compulsory!!
I also go out of my way to assist cage drivers who have broken down. It gives motorcyclists a good name.

What's sadder I think is walking down the street and trying to check your mirrors before walking around someone...Mizz ZZR wrote:Hell, I even forget I'm not on my bike sometimes and nod from my cage drivers seat..... Is that sad or what???
Normally only happens when I'm running on automatic - which is all too often these days.

PS. I always nod or wave so long as I'm not busy doing something - eg changing lanes or preparing for a corner. Doesn't matter what they're riding - I'll even acknowledge scooters
If you have no fear, you're not going fast enough.

For a bloke maybe. I've never stopped to see if anyone's ok, and its certainly not because I don't care, it's because I'm female, and blokes are bigger and stronger than me. I don't wanna pull over to do a good deed, and end up in trouble myself. You never know what psychos are out there.aardvark wrote:the other done thing is to stop and see if someone is ok if you see a bike stopped on the side of the road. This is compulsory!!
I nearly had a nasty situation on my hands one night when travelling home with a girlfriend, and we pulled over to see if someone was ok. He was a psycho, and completely pissed and amorous as well, so we just got the hell outta there, and reported him to the police. Call me a dobber maybe, but I didn't want him back out on the road in that condition.
If it was obvious that it was a female rider pulled over, I'd absolutley stop.

Karen,
That's fair enough!! I wouldnt have my missus stopping to help people either..... My other half always gets a bit, ummmm, frantic, when I stop to see if people are ok. I've helped some dodgey looking people who have told me they had been stuck there for several hours, and no-one has stopped to see if they are ok.
But, i figure, if they are gonna turn into psychotic dickheads, then I'll just beat the absolutley living f&*K out of their usless f&%king skulls until I can see their f*&king brains and..... err...
I'll be quiet now.

As i said before, i always nod or wave. I like the look of disbelief from a lot of scooter riders when you nod. They look around, what you waving at me. If a tin top moves over to let me through i give em thankyou wave. If they move over to block me, i have been known to kick a mirror off. If a Harley rider nods, i nod back (this is a rare occasion) The last Harley rider i initiated a nod at, gave me the bird. OK then knob head, laughed and kept riding.
