Hi all,
I will try explain everything clearly so maybe someone out there knows what the hells wrong wit my bike
I bought a 1996 ZX7R(50,000ks) the other day, rode it home, rode it around for about 3 days with no issues at all. Did an oil and oil filter change.
ran good on the way to uni. On the way back home tho, the bike started to hesitate and lose power on the freeway at around 6000rpm, eventually the engine cut out. Had plenty of fuel. Bike wouldnt start up again so had to get it vanned home.
I took it apart, cleaned carbs, new airfliter, new plugs etc.. eventually after charging the battery up 3 times I got it fired up. idled pretty nice, revved okay.everything seemed back to normal, took it for a quick spin(3 minutes) and then it died on me again.
My guess is no fuel gettin to the carbs. And im thinkin the fuel pump is buggered.
Im wonderin if you guys might have any other suggestions/ideas?
any help would be appreciated
cheers
Phil

Just a guess at this, but I'm reading between the lines.
Original problem sounds like carb icing to me. Next problem sounds like you have kinked a vacuum or fuel line in reassembly! I could be wrong, but these are free fix options which should be looked at prior to spending diagnostic money.

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

Charging battery 3 times ?
....Personally i would replace the battery then at least you know you have a new battery, peace of mind. I recently replaced my battery($80)...so not a real expensive option.
Also as Strika mentioned check fuel line for kinks.
Fuel pump, i hope is your last option. These suckers aren't cheap! New around the 400 mark(Big K know how to charge for parts
). When i had fuel pump issues i sourced a good 2nd hand one for less than half the cost of a new one.
Good luck mate, hope it's a simple, quick, cheap fix.
