scooters are taking over!!
the sun is out more these days and ive noticed that there are more scooters these days than ever. what is worst is that when i go to park my bike at uni, they are all taken by scooters!!!!!
anyways enough of me bitching, who here agrees with me that they should have more parking spots for motorcycles in the city? btw they reduced the motorcycle parking space at my uni this year for some stupid reason.

Scooters? well its a bit of a good thing in that there's more bikes (scooters ARE bikes) on the road and hopefully that increases driver awareness, both as rider drivers, and from seeing more of them on the road.
r.e. the reduced parking, speak to your student union and make a complaint about it. As there's increased bike use as transport, it seems a bit silly to reduce the number of spots.

i think wollongong has enough on street motorcycle parking for 6 bikes.
yep thats right.
uni makes u pay a yearly fee to park bike, but cant get a park now, to many scooters, all the young kids are getting scooters to go to and from uni, its so metro cool apparently.
none of my local shoping centres have motorcycle parking, so i just use a car park. if they complain maybe we will get our own parking.
dont dare do sidewalk parking, cops dont like it nor do the rangers and u get a nice letter saying u owe them money for using a motorbike and parking on footpath..

i agree ...i hate scooters personally, wouldnt ride one...again...BUT i dont see em as a negative...i agree that the more scooters that get out there, the more awereness we will get as riders...hopefully not bad publicity tho...

The main issue with scooters is not the scooters per se, it's the riders. I haven't seen one (apart from a mate and his partner, both who I have nagged into submission) treat the things with anything approaching the respect they merit seeing they are a registered vehicle.
They buzz off to work dressed in business suits and slacks with their main torso protection their suit jacket, or maybe a goretex fluro pushbike jacket. No gloves, open face el-cheapo helmet and work shoes. Some idiots are even wearing their tie or a scarf.
I saw one asian lady late last week lane splitting in a skirt and high-heels and she had her open-face helmet on backwards (something I had previously only seen in photos). It wasn't even done up properly, which in hindsight was probably just as well seeing it was on backwards. I've seen other girls wearing 3/4 length shorts and thongs...wtf?
If they have an accident they are not dressed appropriately even to ride a pushbike at a slow speed, never mind a vehicle capable of doing well over the speed limit, and in the main flow of traffic. As a result they get horribly mangled, and their insurance pays out and our premiums go up.
People's mindsets have got to change. Just because they are trendy and used intra-urban is no excuse for hitting the road dressed in a business suit at 80km/h. Dickheads.
As loath as I am to suggest more legislation surrounding motorised two-wheeled transport, maybe a minimum level of appropriate protective clothing needs to be mandated by law. Either that or triple their insurance premiums (and lower ours)..

i dont care what scooter riders wear..HELL..i dont care what YOU wear..u are the one scraping pebbles out of ya skin if ya fall off....not me... just dont whinge to me..
the other thing is, they are doin it cos its cheap & easy...but how many would do it if they had to
a. spend more on protective gear
b. get changed at work
i like scooters cos theres less congestion , and less wear on roads, and the greenhouse etc, but if we make too many rules, they will go back to cars....
reckon we should ban cars from cities tho...
