It was the state distributor who was contaced and he is a representative of the Michelin company.

Yes yes I know, not yet another fcukin tyre thread. But the life I am getting out of the tyres on the Hornet right now are dissapointing to say the least, and I am scratching my head as to why????

Some background to fill you in on my concerns and the wheres and why fores!!!

Bought the Hornet fitted with Michelin Hi-sport road compound tyres. They lasted 2200klms!!! Shagged, front and rear.

Put a set of race compound Metzler rennsports on it a 1 compound on the front and a 2 on the rear. So like a soft race front, and a medium race rear to give you an idea if you're not familiar with the Metzler designations. I got 8000klms out of the front, and 4500klms out of the rear.

On the 636, the BT014's lasted 3600klms before being shagged. Yet I could get 3000-3500 klms out of a set of Ex race BT002's!!!

I run close to recommended pressures on the road tyres just to try and get life out of them and that still doesn't work??? On the race tyres I run 34-36F and 38-40R depending on weather.

Why is it that I can get similiar or better life from my soft race tyres, that I can get from the road tyres??? Anyone got any ideas?

Marty The Racetechs are also now available on a "0" which is even softer.

As for your tyre wear drama mate, May i suggest that You would be more comfortable then most with the Bike moving around on A Roadbased tyre & would be less likely to get the Proddie Based "Race tyres" to the same levels of abuse on the street.

I think we seem to get away from the Fact that the Current crop of Road tyres are FUGGEN Awesome compared to the crap availbale even 5-6 years ago. If used as intended you can get more economy out of a soft compound with a STURDY construction then a Hard compound Crap construction tyre.

The rennsports also were available in a 0 Ponti. Dunno what the story is, but I am going back to those Metzlers I think!

ok....

i started out with a BT019 on front and BT014 on rear fron new
got 7400ks and 6800ks out of them.
and the front pulsated lightly...
then had BT014 on front and BT020 on rear.
front still pulsated after about 2000ks
got 6800ks out of the BT20 rear. (shithouse grip)
still going on that front.
not have a Mich Pilot rear.
love it, but when going about walking pace it squirms in the back, like you got a flat

but other than that its awesome!!

and i think it needs balancing, its a bit bumpy, and it looks to me like the weights are still the ones that the 20 had on.. im sceptical.

been told if u dont like waiting around all day at mtm - some guys doing track days go and buy the tyres off him cheap and then get them fitted out at qr for like $20 and in 10 mins - and say its well worth saving your ears from being chewed off

ummm, just adding to the register...

just put a pilot power on the front of the Z to match the rear.

replaced a bridgie, BT014
comments:
-whilst no hands on bars at about 80k bars used to wobble, but doesnt now. mind you i only have 47Ks ont he PP
-wore well, sides rooted, middle ok, didn't "heel toe" untill the last ride
-8200kays from it.
-quite happy with it, no major slides or anything

i've had the rear PP on for about 2000k, had my 1st puncture on a bike. nail through the tread, actually in one of the grooves, off centre of the tyre, got it plugged from the inside, and no probs so far. i was lucky to find the nail while i was washing it, and saw bubbles, it wasnt flat yet.

Well the Pirelli Diablo Strada (rear) has done 7,632km now and the threads are as good as new

At this rate I'm hoping to break photomike's record of 17,000km

The front pilot power - I did not record the km, but I could swore it was *before* I fitted the rear, which means more than 7,632km travelled. Almost hit the thread marker, but impressive nevertheless, unlike the BT14 which triangulated and was chucked at 6500km. Will be happy if the pilot will do 10,000km but I don't like the feel overall.

Both front & rear experienced 1 trackday.

17000k in 7 months

Finally got a new hoop today (7/05/06 for future reference). $284 for a Dunlop 220 fitted & balanced. Bike has now done 56500k, 17000 of which was done in the last rear tyre, then front is looking good and should last until the next rear is needed in about October.
another 7 months and only 10,000k done - must be winter. Rear is still looking good, front is holding up but looking decidedly second hand

With the bike having a little time off due to holidays, offs and me using the Kombi now and again (plus the lack of ride-outs), this set of tyres is still going. Bike is now at 68900k; the front has done an amazing 29600 and the rear is at about 12400. Both tyres are within the legal limit and quite useable.

I purchased a pair of ME1s at the expo today for $399. Haven't had them fitted yet, but might do so soon and keep present tyres for a track day as the edges have plenty of life left.

Dunlop 220.

It has reasonable endurance, confidence is not great but ok. I don't like the prifile much, hence the change back to the M1. I got almost as much out of the last M1, and it felt a lot better to ride on.

One day I'm going to stop all this commuting lark and try some really sticky tyres with a decent sport profile. For now I sit on the freeway not braking hard, not accelerating hard and my tyres last ages. It's all about the boring rideing I have to do, and the fact that there have been bugger all ride outs over winter.
