leathers
leathers
hi guys/gals
im begining to think that i wnt to invest in some leathers
im thinking 2 piece is the way to go as all riding will be (at this stage) on the road
main question is there a big differene in quality, crash/sliding protection etc between say a pair of $1200 alpinestar and a pair of ebay seller $4-600
i realise the alpinestar will have the better bragging rights but to me i would rather spend the $600 on a better helmet or somehitng of the like.
any help/ input is appriciated
justin

Sometimes it's in the name, but often cheaper suits use lower quality leather and won't have double or trebble sticking on critical bursting seams.
On saying this I have a 2 piece set from e-bay ($450ish), is comfortable and has come out of a low speed bingle with no visible damage.

i had a lower level dainese suit and compared it to a cheapie ebay suit, the dainese was a bit more comfy in some areas, but had a funny cut so let itself down there. it also used thinner leather and appeared to not be built as well
in all honesty, i would have preferred to go down in the ebay suit (so i sold the dainese one).
it'll depend on the maker tho, and since none of the brands are really well known, you really do have to see the items or at least make sure they have a return policy. check it over and try it on before buying and i reckon you cant go too far wrong...

i have a "bikers club" suit which ive had for abt 8 yrs now.... back then i paid abt $800 but now u can pick up a 2 piece a bit cheaper than that....
ive been down 4 times on the road..3 times in the pants, twice in each jacket (i bought 2 cos i wanted 2 diff colours..lol)
they held up SUPER well.... admittedly the 3rd crash did a fair bit of damage to the jacket, destroyed an arm, but i had only a scratch on my elbow....
u can get bikers club from most dealers- its cheaper but seems ok..

I reckon Collins seems like a great brand, gets good reviews, and is an australian company, on top of that they have great prices....

Apparently all their stuff is triple stiched and 1.4mm leather (some other brands are 1.3mm leather with double stitching).
Another Aussie company that has a great reputation is TigerAngel.... More expensive I think, but all of their leathers are custom fitted, and are supposedly the most comfortable because of that....

It has already survived one off, and they're still going strong...
According to Dave#3, they have "street cred"
