Collins Leathers

Post by Glen »

Just took the dive and ordered myself a new set of leathers from Collins. Having seen a few of them around these guys make some pretty fair gear. I've also got a set of their gloves which are the best set of gloves I've owned in 26 years.

Having now dealt with them I have to say what an absolute great bunch of people to talk to. Very helpful, responsive and you get the impression they really appreciate their customers.

You give them your measurements they pick the jacket and pants that best suit your measurements and send them to you overnight. If there is a problem with fit you send the bit back that doesn't fit and they send you a new one, so you're assured of getting it right. All for $900, depending on what you order.

My leathers should turn up tomorrow so I'll post some photo's and an update then.

The jacket looks like this and the pants are plain black.

I was surprised to find.......................

I was given Rocket jacket for a present and I was surprised to find that it was made in China!! Like just about everything else. I thought they were American....Guess the temptation of cheap labour got to them....

You talking Joe Rocket? I've done a bit of research in the last week and from what I can tell their gear is pretty average. I looked at one of theirs but their suits aren't double stitched etc. Most leathere these days I think you'll find are made in Asia which is not a bad thing so long as the quality is good.

The good thing is you talk to the guys at Collins and they know what they're talking about.

Collins leathers are well represented at the race track, one, becasue they do good deals on race suits for the racers, and two, the suits ARE well made and appear to holdtogether OK in crashes. They used to triple stitch them once upon a time. Dunno if they still do?

BTW, not all the Joe rocket stuff is single stitched either. I do however believe that the current lot isn't! I have an older GPX suit, and it's well made, and has even been crash tested last year at winton and it held together well. Couldn't say the same about the J.R. gloves though. Holed the right hand glove in the first crash on the heel of the hand, and now the other glove has worn the leather through on the clutch hand just from wearing it.

Yeah they still triple stitch stuff.

The guys were saying they only sell direct now so you don't have the retail markup, which means good pricing. A one piece suit is something like $800 I think so they are real sharp.

Yeehaa. My suit turned up this morning and everything fits fine.

Quality wise these look as good as anything else I've seen and they feel really good on. They also have decent pockets in them which is a bit of a change.

Will post a photo when I get one.

http://www.collinsleathers.com

It's out of date though and doesn't have the Suzuka gear. Having now got mine and ridden in them I have to say they are brilliant. If you want to spend $850 odd bucks you'l get yourself a really good suit.

You can email Phil on info@collinsleathers.com or ring Dave on 0412 213 885. If you mention your from here they should look after you.

Cheers

I always thought they were a super expensive brand... like dianese or alpinestar...... Its good to find out they are affordable.... I will keep them in mind when I start shopping for a suit...

They used to be reasonably expensive but they ditched retailers so there's now only one margin being made on the way through, hence the good prices.
