more than likely it'd be a HF 303 if your getting a hi flo filtro, they are the screw on external type most bikes use these days.

or you can get a stainless one like mine, its a better bet if you do a few k's and change your oil regularly.

87K and still going strong

I was thinking along the lines of a ryco from supercheap or something like that.
I dont do a million kms but i do change oil regulary like when its just on the turn about 3500-4000km and kwaka want 21 dollars for a filter.

I do know that if you change your oil as regularly as you do, you only need to change the filter every 2 to four times you change the oil.

Whenever you dump the oil it takes a lot of suspended particles with it.

I'm not sure what the Kawasaki reccomended interval is but I know some manufacturers suggest 10,000 kilometers for the oil and 20,000kms for the filter.

This seems crazy to me and I change my oil, Motul 5100, every 3,000kms and my filter every 12,000.

i NEVER go more than 5K on oil and i clean my stainless filter everytime i change the oil, easy insurance.

we had a guy on the radio show last week who had 196K on his triumph daytona 4, he reckons regular oil changes with good quality oil is the best insurance you can get. then again we already knew that, tims 208K on the gpx was proof enough for me. 8)

I am also bringing home a new bike on thursday and was thinking about changing the filter after about 300 km but i might just pickup a kwaka original one.(21bucks but hey they goto make a profit)

Yeah i found with my existing bike they change sweeter if you keep the oil clean and you know when you change it what you think is the best went in,I prefer motul 5100 but not till its well run in.

also remember one important thing. Oil filters aren't all the same. By all means hit yourself up for one from the MCA store, they should be an identical specification. However if you find a filter in repco/supercheap that fits, remember that although your bike may have a spin on that may be identical to that in my corolla, or your sisters excel. But that != (does not equal) the same thing.

The oil pressure your bike requires could be higher (or lower) than that on the filter for the car that you've found. Thusly the resistance to flow of the new filters could vary enough to cause concern.

I could very well be wrong, but it's just something someone pointed out to me a while ago, so i'd be erring very much on the side of caution if i were you with aftermarketies from repco as the idea of oil starvation or insufficient filtering does kinda disturb me somewhat.

yeh I was aware that they can use diferent micron paper and diferent presure release spring to factory spec ones thats why you have to ask around. I think i will go for the factory ones first and see what i can find out a bit further down the track.

Yeah it becomes slowly worth it and I'm thinking about going the reusable route.
Though the aftermaket filters only cost $17 from Gosford MC, and in my 40000odd I've now done 8 changes => $136. Another 4 changes and I'd have broken even if I'd gotten the stainless - so I'm thinking about it now.
