Ear plugs

Post by MrStompy »

At a trade stand at Phillip Island this year i bought a set of those custom made ear plugs for $60.
I quite liked them as they work every time whereas the foam ones i find can be a bit hit and miss as to wether they seal or not and i cant be bothered to pull up and fix it

anyway i lost one of them 3 rides later.

I want to replace it but i dont feel like paying $60 each time i lose one (which will no doubt happen a lot)

i found these kits out of america
http://www.earplugsthatfit.com/earplugs ... atfit.html

has anyone used them ie is it hard to do or better still does anyone know of an australian supplier of these (or similar) DIY ear plug kits

THanks

I checked out the site, and you can even mould your I-pod buds into them. for $20 bucks it's probably worth a go! Let me know how it works!

I get mine from a store
...the OHS store at work...for nuffing

Our forge shop registers around 148dB
just a bit noisier than a jumbo

GOOD earplugs are mandatory...and free
as are the yearly hearing tests

my hearing is fine...coz I wear plugs when i ride :)

cheers

In my earlier days of riding, when we didn't have fairings, or quiet helmets, I never wore earplugs. Till I was told, that 100kph for an hour is equivelent to a years worth of factory work noice wise!!!??? Anyhow, whatever the comparison is, I figured ear plugs would be a sesible option. I wer them all the time now. Even racing. But I think the damage was done a bit before that. Now, in a noisy room, I can't focus in on one conversation as it disapears!!! It's why I like quiet bars, instead of noisy nightclubs!!!

The best cheapies I have found you get from safety shops. They are an orange colour, and have a smooth finish to the surfaces, so they don't irritate to the same degree as the foam ones.

I have also tried those disposable mouldable ones. They look like clear plasticine. You pull of a square from the block, mould it into a shape and blob it into your ear. They seal really well, are even less irritating than the foam ones, but on an all day ride, they start to stick to the inside of your ear and fall apart a bit. So I only use these on shorter rides. Very comfy, but icky after a while, and a must chuck item after one use!

best bet is to try some different plugs

i like the squishy ones personally and they fit and seal no dramas

i also prefer the ones with the string attached , when i stop i wrap them around the mirror and there for when i come back

as a bonus i get them free at work sits i visit ;)

otherwise they are about $40 for 200 pair box, split a box with friends , they last a long time
