I have a 2003 GPX250 with only 11,500 km on it. I took the sprocket cover off today because it was filled with dirt and lube and I found a less than perfect sprocket staring at me (see attachment).
Now I realise it is worn but my question is, is it too worn? Would you consider this to be bad case that needs immediate replacement or what? The rear sprocket looks ok so hopefully I don't have to replace that too. The chain is binding a bit but the links can be rotated with fingers without much pressure. Is this normal?
If it does need replacement, how do various places in Melbourne stack up in terms of price, quality and availability? I'm particularly interested in how Kawasaki stores compare to third party stores.
Thanks in advance.
Is this sprocket ridable?

KTM 640LC4 Supermoto, Booya!
it has a reasonable amount of wear on it and prob more than i would expect with the mileage
replacement aftermarket runs about $20
future reference keep closer eye on maintenance , clean, lube, and most important correct adjustment
Oring chains are a bit stiff normally, look at the chain as you spin the rear wheel and look for any kinked links

problem is mate, a buggered sprocket will kill a chain..and a buggered chain will kill a sprocket..so the rule of thumb is replace em all at the same time.... and abt $200 a set plus labour if u cant do it urself, well it adds up. With under 12k on ur bike, and it being a 250 im suprised ur having probs with it, to me it doesnt look that bad, id prob try to get a bit more out of it till i had the $$ to do the lot, or till it was proper shagged...
but then again my sprocket looked like this...

that front sprocket is rooted.
not due to the wear, of which there isnt much, but the quality of the metal sprocket itself, it'd have to be pretty damn soft to have the teeth bend like that.
i replace my front sprockets around half the time of the rear.. so, 12-15,000km and a new front sprocket goes on, next sprocket change the rear gets done along with the chain. the thinking behind this is that the front sprocket spins round so many more times than the rear does, hence the wear factor.

also why they recomend u go up teeth on the rear, rather than down on the front..if u can...gixxerdave wrote: the thinking behind this is that the front sprocket spins round so many more times than the rear does, hence the wear factor.
last time it was easier/cheaper for me to go down one on the front, but i wouldnt go more than 1...

well honestly the tooths not bent, That's a pretty normal wear pattern for teeth. the top of the front and bottom of the rear (or is it the other way around?)
But 11500km, perhaps that's a bit prematurely worn, but still it'd last a while without utterly frigging things. I'd be wondering if the chain was possibly a bit too tight?
