Metzler Racetech's

Post by Strika »

I had to replace the old rennsport front tyre with a Racetech front last tyre change, as the Rennsports were becoming hard to find. Glad I ddin't perservere with finding them either, as the new Racetech front tyre has impressed me even more than the Metzler M3 rear I usually run.

The current front tyre has done over 10,000klms now, and I still reckon I could coax another 2 or 3 from it before the wear markers are touching the ground. The impressive thing is that the mileage has for the most part been done with 60kgs of gear on board. I am tempted to try a racetech front and Rear next tyre change???

As far as grip goes, well I certainly couldn't fault them. They turn well, are stable and grippy. They handle bumps and crappy surfaces as well as dirt roads. They grip well from cold and are Ok in the wet despite what they look like!

When they were first launched they were supposed to be the replacement for the Rennsports but far more track-oriented, so getting a decent number of K's was thought to be difficult. So I'm quite impressed with the amount you've managed to get out of them

Never used an M3 front Ponti so couldn't say for sure. But it's a bit like the difference between a 002 and an 014 mate so I guess it should be better. :D

Never used a front M3 so couldn't say. But the M3's are sorta the same shape on the rim, maybe a little less pointy. Not sure what you'll pay, hunt around and see what you can find. Just make sure you ask for K2 compounds not K1's! the K1's are madly soft.

just looking at their site:

I presume that makes the k3's the hardest out of the 4 k's?

K0,K1,K2, are SS race tyres, the K3 and K4 are a more street oriented tyre with a harder rubber compound but same carcass construction.

After my experiences with the K2 front, I wouldn't want to go any harder, as the life was brilliant as was the grip! :D
