Dan silly bugger you need to remove the barrel lock from the door
Remove the inside trim and plastic sheeting there is usually a c clip and a and a small plastic clip holding a rod to the lock mechanism remove these and remove the lock from the door,
On the back of the lock there is a clip holding on the actuator lever remove this you now should be able to see the end of the key poking through using a small tool to suit push the rest of the key out of the lock
If its the ignition barrel same principal applies just a bit more involved

its the same process just a bit more work
once you remove the door handle remove the barrel lock and follow the process All up only about 10 nuts and bolts to remove the barrel lock if you want you can then take the lock to the locksmith and get them to push the key out and pay 8)

2 screws in the armrest, 1 screw in the inside doorhandle, 1 c clip under the window winder. Unscrew the lock button on the top of the trim and prise off the plastic triangle where the door mirror is mounted. Then pop the clips around the edge of the door trim with a flat blade and lift the trim panel upwards, twisting the inside handle to get it through the hole in the panel.
Peel back the plastic and undo a couple of those right angle plastic shaft locators and two bolts holding the handle assembly to the door.

So thats 3 screws and 2 bolts. Too easy.
