Surprising ZX10R fuel economy.

Post by varden »

Well I've done about 600km on the new 10 and i must say its easily the most economical bike I've owned so far!

I took it for a "spirited" run over Mt Glorious/Nebo on friday and used just under 12 litres to do 190km, thats better than any bike I've ever owned!

In fact i was flat out getting that at normal highway speeds on the other bikes.

I did a kyogle run yesterday with a couple of mates riding the 06 R1 and the K6 GSXR1000, and despite taking turns thrashing each others bikes all the way back to civilisation the 10 still managed reasonable economy....

I like it!

Oh and crikey does it go!!!

And thank goodness for steering dampners, some of those roads are bumpy and there was headshake aplenty at speeds I'd rather not mention.

When i went on my putty run yesterday i got some very surprising levels of economy.

When filling up at the servo before going out i calculated 13.5km/l, which is fair considering it was 100% commuting. Then when we got to the halfway house it was 10.5 litres for 184km, so 17.3km/litre!!!

Having a bit more of a spirited ride (mostly just keeping a gear higher than i normally would) through the backroads to broke i ended up at a pretty good 16km/litre. Not as good as when i was being overly cautious, but still, wow!

These bikes are definately made for twisty stuff, not for the commuting slog *grin*

Hey Varden, what you'll most likely find mate, is that when you grow enough balls to open the throttle, it will prolly use a bit more!!!!

Twiddle it. I test-rode an 06 10R and found the stock suspension setup to be so far out it wasn't funny. In usual Kawasaki fashion, the bikes roll out of the factory dragging their arse on the ground.

Tip it onto its nose a bit.

Yep I do need to tweak the suspension.

it's even better when you commute.

In general i used to get 20km per litre on the cbr600, now I'm getting 17 out of the 10R and I probably go a bit harder in places coz it's a new level of power and I'm enjoying it ;)
