SatNav at ALDI, yay or nay?

Post by Wattie »

saw this in an aldi brochure...

does this sound like good buying? it has a 1 year warranty if it does, so thats a start.

anything i should be looking for?

it doesnt say if the has a "backlight"
do they generally come with a backlight?? i got no idea...

im heading to prot macquarie way, and thought it would eb handy to have.
plus the missus is shit with directions. she gets lost following me to eastern creek, and she's been there like 6 times.

Sounds alright from your description. just try and figure out what the hardware manufacturer actually is and read a few reviews. Also as we used a GPS to get from L.A to Vegas and San Fran to L.A. one with a bitching betty, erm, that was our pet name for the inbuilt speaker/direction announcement

They are seriously worth shelling out a bit extra for, esp if you haven't a f*ing clue as to where you are.

Javaman, the one i used wasn't waterproof... i just kept freezer bags to cover it with if i thought it was in danger of getting soaked, luckily the screen did a good job of protecting it. :)

Sounds alright to me Wattie. I use the MIO version.

As for the Back light, check if it has a day/night mode. I found that the day mode at night is bloody bright.

Bear in mind they have some limitations though, eg they couldn't help Mina find his bike often enough to justify paying rego for one :D

Here is a tip for buying anything at all from Aldi - Get There Early.

The way Aldi operate, they only buy a set amount of the stuff on special, and it walks out the door within minutes of the store opening. I learnt this the hard way.

If you get there before opening and start a queue, you will get what you are after.

They never re-stock specials either, so its a one-chance-only thing.... :?
