Reversing indicator phasing on ZX9R - any ideas?

Post by Loz »

A strange issue: when I flick the Minja's indicators on, they start on the "off" part of their cycle, meaning that there's almost a second before the light comes on.

I dunno about you guys but I'm a bit of a commando in traffic, and I do a lot of splitting and quick lane changes. I do like to be nice to the poor cagers though, and at least give them the right signals. Right now, the things are taking so long to flash on that sometimes on quick moves I've already cancelled the signal by the time it comes on.

Is there an easy electrical fix for this? Anyone got any ideas?

Check globe wattage also, i had globes that were too high in watts and were slow to work....or maybe they were just cheap ass globes

Flashers have a bi-metal strip that has to heat up in order for the flasher unit to work.....this doesn't happen 'instantly', it takes , maybe 1/2 a second or more depending on the flasher.......flashers always start on the 'off' part of their cycle.

Only fix ? Try and electronic flasher unit (as per Marz advice), or, indicate earlier :D (I am being serious.... :D )

Weird, I don't remember this problem on other bikes... And a mate swears his ZX9 doesn't do the same thing. It's not the world's most critical problem, but indicating early does take up some mental bandwidth in thick traffic, and I don't wanna run into copper troubles because of it.

he might have a different model of flasher and /or bulb wattage. It all makes a difference, some flashers do work quicker than others.....
