De-Baffling/Modifying Baffles On ZZR600.Any Advise?Who Has??

Post by ZZR KWAKA »

I pulled one of the Cans off today to look at Modify or removing the Baffles.....

After drilling out the 3 pop-rivots at the rear of the can... Nothing seems to want to come apart...?? As you can tell I have no idea on what I was doing..He he

And now even if I was to Re-poprivot it back... I have a few peices of Rivot floating around inside the Can... Which I do want to get out...

Any advice?? Anyone done any work to their own Cans and give me an idea on what I need to do??

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.........

Prob won't even run better than stock, in fact might even run worse. Best to take a hack-saw to it and wack a slip-on on instead.

Reminds me of the time I tried to hold two exhaust together with a strip of tin-foil and a f*ck-off exhaust clip...worked a treat till it caught on fire.
Motorcycle's are inherently unstable...

check and see if there are any rivets at the front of the can first.......if there are none, then the baffle is just *tight* and will need to be *encouraged* out......

If this is too hard, re-rivet the rear rivets, and just give the bike a huge couple of revs when its fitted back up - aim the exhaust out the driveway, the rivetie-bits left inside will find their own way out.....

Nope... This wont work...Apparently there are 3 different cylinder compartments to the Can.... I have tried flipping the can end to end... and nothing comes out.. I can just hear it moving inside..

I really hope to get instructions on how to modify the baffles if anyone has done it ...PLease Please Let me know....

I rang a exhaust place today and they want $400 just to modify the baffles..... Bit Steep....

Would driling the baffle do anything? as in noise level?
more holes = more noise?
or does it work another way?

Don't worry, it will work, the pressure of the exhaust will force them out. Flipping the cans from end to end won't do anything, there is no pressure to force the bits out...

$400 to modify an exhaust ?? forget that. its a rip.

Can't help you on modifying process, but wonder what your intentions are?

Even a "simple" straight through can is engineered for specific gas flow to aid power output at some point in the rev range. Simple removing a baffle may have an adverse effect or simply make the bike louder. Louder for the sake of louder is not always a good thing, louder for the sake of faster is a different matter ;)

Well Well... Thanks all for thee lil tips..... But there is nothing that can be done without having some cutting and welding experience... As it is fully sealed cans that I am working with...

The only Mod I could do is to knock out the baffle by slamming a pole down the guts... And I am not that desperate to do that.... So I guess its going to be staying standard unl;ess I get some money thrown my way....lol
