If you need more members, wouldn't it help to advertise in magazines? just bike and two wheels and a few sports bike ones would get heaps of people curious.

I reckon, that if it was a need, that would be a good idea. But I think it is more a want, wanting to meet new and unusual people, swell the ranks to enrich the diversity of character and interests. A want to make it a more interesting mix for enlightenment and social bonding.
And, a want to find people local to you and arrange rides.
By the way, how far is the Hunter Valley from Nelson Bay?
Snob!

The hard thing for newbees here is that because it has been going for some time now it has become rather "clique". Everybody knows everybody and there are lots of in jokes. Think about the last time you walked into a new workplace or a new group of friends. How self conscious did you feel, wanting to make a good impression?
I decided this would be my introduction oh so long ago;
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5633&hilit=" target="_blank" target="_blank
I lurked for a long time before joining, then lurked some more. Now I bet some of you wish that I would piss off.
I think its important to emphasis that we are a real club and a real group of people that do get together. Whether it be to lend a hand to one another, offer advice, go for a ride, have a coffee in passing - or even for a piss up. Perhaps it's more important to develop the club as a living breathing thing that uses the internet as a form of communication rather than its core.
So instead of just handing out stickers directing people to a website perhaps organize a group ride or social event and write the details on the back of the sticker where new members can meet the real people before launching onto the site.
Just an idea

Re: KSRC Member Drive
That was my exact point in my rant before S&W, well said.
I think a new member section is needed with a mission statement type of thing, with regular events and outings listed and kept up to date. Not a thread but a static bit that does not grow and become to large to read through to find the bits you are looking for. I.E.; the Sydney regular ride page, to find out what goes on there would take hours to read and you still might not know if, and or when they are.
If the newbie could be given a bit of a tour without having to scroll though mountains of verbal diarrhea, they would instantly know what the club had to offer and not just blindly go into pages that are probably best left unread by a newbie for fear of permanent and debilitating damage to their idea of the world.
Anyway, It looks like Nelson Bay is a bit of a wasteland for motorcycling so I am going to move nearer to other members. Hunter Valley sounds good. Singleton, actually. (If this new job works out anyway, looks promising so far, find out tomorrow) I really hope they have an MCC. At least there is a couple of MC shops.
So look out Maccas, I’m comin for ya,...... so to speak.....

go close as you can to maitland, from maitland you can get to newcastle pretty quick and newcastle has a nice selection of bike shops, plus around maitland if you go down the roads that lead out to the country area's the roads out there are pretty nice.
The only problem with maitland is the gladiators motorcycle club, dont insult them as if they are just your poser bikies

Shit! after all this time I never realised that bike shops and clubs factored into real estate. All this time I have obviously been wasting time and money on those areas that offer PT, schools, atmosphere and a quality residence. From now on I will look more into location of bike shops etcmaccas wrote:HWY065 wrote: Hunter Valley sounds good. Singleton, actually. Christ if I had of bought our home based on the local bike shops I would be sorely dissapointed - and I have been. Nough said last comment I posted up about lacklustre service and shite satisfaction got edited to read alot differently to the way I felt

Re: KSRC Member Drive
I think most of the stuff you are looking for is already here - its just not on one page. All forums require a degree of 'navigation' in order to find particular items, this place is no different.HWY065 wrote:....I think a new member section is needed with a mission statement type of thing, with regular events and outings listed and kept up to date. Under the 'Rides' section for example, is a thread called 'Regular Sydney Rides' - it is fairly long, but if any new members wanted to know what was happening, its always only the last page or 2 of the thread that needs to be read. The lastest posts always have the current information on them - Sydney rides in particular are pretty much set in concrete - northsiders do the OPH on Sunday morning, and southsiders do the Nasho - meeting places and times don't vary much either, just the number of smiling faces that turn up.....

It always takes a bit of time to familiarise with a new site, and in the process new members could unearth all sorts of interesting threads and topics....

I have a good mate who lives in Singleton, when you move there let me know, he rides a 1200 Bandit. Loves the Putty !!

i agree with what hiway is saying - and i see the points raised...
on the old forum we use to have a "who are u" page, where each member had a pic, and a short profile abt em... only abt 30 members volunteered info, and the mod's spent ages setting it up..dunno if ne1 ever looked at it??
i think the site can be tricky to negotitate (and ive been here a while)...i personally think the front page should have a direct link to our club sponsors and maybe a state contact or the regular ride listed as mentioned..would make it a bit easier i guess for newbies...
also..maybe i should be kept away from them till they are 100 posts old?? lol

Re: KSRC Member Drive
It does mate - check the menu items. Sponsors are there, as well as a lot of other stuff that most of the 'forum' junkies simply ignore - we all just jump in and post !!Neka79 wrote:...i personally think the front page should have a direct link to our club sponsors and maybe a state contact or the regular ride listed as mentioned..would make it a bit easier i guess for newbies...

There used to be a 'State' page I recall, but it had not been updated for ages, before the Big Crash of '06.......I don't think it came back ?
This forum is actually pretty easy to navigate around I reckon, some of the other forums have really small print for logging on/off, UCP's, etc. Its hard to find your way around those sites.
All it takes is a bit of patience when finding where things are - they don't move too much (especially the rides section). State contacts would rely on members volunteering phone numbers etc, this can create its own problems - pm's are good if new people want some info about *exact* meeting spots / times etc. Once a newbie has been on a couple of rides, its not so daunting. We were all newbies once eh ??
