Easy when you know how! Was able to completely disassemble both legs and exactly as mentioned bunged everything into the parts wash. Cleaned re-assembled and new oil they feel more like the should
Bumped up the rear preload as well - it was only 1 click off the lowest setting - to one off max. whole setup feels a lot better in the garage. Not willing to test ride it yet as there is something unwell with the front brakes. That will be a whole other story Why do the make those reservoir cap screws out of cheese?

Bahaha! Sorry ofr laughing, but I've been there too with Master cylinder reservior screws!!! Yamaha wern't the only ones back then either!!!!
As for the brakes, they are prone to calipers seizing. Pull em apart, insert new seals and refit with new fluid! Should come up like new provided the M/C isn't cactus!

Have cleaned the muck out of the calipers and all the pistons appear to move freely. Just got a very spongy feel to the lever, there is a distinctive "step" in the lever travel also - at about the half way mark. The lever can be brought right back to the bar and there is little in the way of retardation because I can still roll the bike forward. Still much better than when it arrived home because at that stage the lever didn't move at all. Everything has been saturated in penetrene for the last day or two. The rear brake was not much better but a clean up and some new fluid has cured that so as they are performing as they should.
It all comes down to getting hold of new screws for the cap before I drill the heads off the old ones. That means a trip to my least favourite motorcycle store here in Sunbury - Who by the way have been closed since Xmas

Drilled out those bastard screws, new brake fluid and all good Still the local Yamaha dealer isn't open today - of course - they better be on Wed
Stripped and cleaned the carbs, new plugs today also and some fresh coolant. Did the oil and filter the other day so alls I've got left to do now is a few cosmetic tidy ups and then it's off for a RWC. Next stop front lawn with big "For Sale" sign attatched

Although it's not a bad bike - better than a CBR250 definitely - unknown on the ZXR250. The fizzer seems to have a longer wheelbase, a greater reach to the bars than the other 2 and because of the dummy tank it carries its weight lower. They seem to be an anomaly amongst the 250 market given the lower prices. It seems every 18yo wants a CBR
