HELP! Which tyre for ZX10
re: HELP! Which tyre for ZX10
okokok... I'll give the pilot powers a go... did think of the pilot sport cause they seem to have a better wet weather track but a lean angle of 41.5 degrees in the wet seem the powers are good enough in the wet too...
Thanks for all the feedback. now if it would only be sunny for a couple of days so I can get them fitted and roughed up... too risky, new tyres in the rain, or so I feel...
Thanks again for helping me making the brain racking choice...
Cheers.

re: HELP! Which tyre for ZX10
i have found the pirelli doablo CORSA's to be a major improvement over the metzeler sportecs especially for track use.. i did root the right side of my front corsa with road use tho.....
i may try the pilot powers at some stage..
mina - tyres are meant to last less than 5000km... my rear sportec is about 2/3rds worn and thats after 4 weeks... lets see, 2500km so far...

re: HELP! Which tyre for ZX10
well the only reason i'm winging about tyres lasting around 5000 or less is beacuse they are expensive.
If u look at dunlop 208, bridgestone 020, metzeler M4 etc, they last the distance but are shit for leaning, grip in the wet, but excellent for commuting and they last 10000km.
i would love to find a tyre that can do both, but it will never happen. I guess i'll just keep trying tyres and see what i'm happy with.
so far dunlop 207 - not happy

Fark how hard do u ride. 4000 out of a 208
i thought they last for ages around 7000-10000km's.
i'm pretty sure i'm getting the pilot powers for a next tyre.

re: HELP! Which tyre for ZX10
Mina there's no way I'd get 10,000k's from a 207-208 on the rear.
The front maybe and that would be around 7000k's.
I find I get nearly 2 twice the distance from a front than from a back.

The reason for getting twice the distance from the front, because of all those mono's

re: HELP! Which tyre for ZX10
kieren,
the michelin pilot powers are an excellent choice, so i found when a mate of mine told me to take his green zx10r out at eastern creek last weekend for a session, topped off my 30th birthday celebrations nicely...
they were brand new that morning, maybe only a few k's, but he'd scrubbed em in nicely all day with his 1:44's and i went out on it in the last session and got a few 1:48 laps considering i'd never ridden one before (if a 10km test ride doesnt count), i might try em on my 9r when its time to toss the rear sportec (3500km so far, prob another 1000km left)..
but nothing beats a set of slicks!
mario, ive had almost 10,000km on my front diablo corsa and its still looking pretty good, i give it another 4,000 i think... 1 front to every 3 rears

re: HELP! Which tyre for ZX10
pilot power on the front & pilot sport on the rear, sport on the rear still gives good grip with a bit more life than a power.....yes i'm a tight ass, them things aint cheap

re: HELP! Which tyre for ZX10
Ok guys...
GOT The PILOT POWERS yesterday (31st). I got them just as my speedo clicked over 9000 kms. Very happy with the kilometers I got out of my Dunlops.
But what a difference!!! I cant recognise the bike. The feel is simply awesome!! They lean in easier and just inspire a lot more confidence!! I've been missing out!!!
Thanks one and all for all your input. Going to the next track day and will give them a go.
Thanks Again,
Have a safe and prosperous NEW YEAR!!
Kieran.
