I'm on the I used to own one of the FZS1000's ancestors drugs. See, the trend of taking the flag ship sports bike and making a semi naked/naked 'cruiser' is not a new one (I know I'm preaching to the queer - er - choir, but I'll plough on regardless  ). Way before Spewie released the Bandit, Yamahahaha were making detuned versions of the FZ750. Almost every bolt was made of a mild steel chocolate and the suspenders were shite but the 20 valve motor was a pearl. It's like they went, "we've got this state of the art bike, how do we sell a bucket loads of cheap bike off the back of it", and found every possible way to make it cheap. I don't see that anything has changed, it's just that beam frames and upside down forks are no longer new technology.

I was actually looking at the full page Yamaha ad in AMCN the other day and thought of all the Yamaha models the FZ1's look the biz. Go for it mate if you punt the marshmallow we need to have something to pull the piss out of you for :D :D
I agree, the FZ1N looks pretty Horn......

SMS me ten minutes before your leaving and if I'm not flat out I might met you down there. :) 8)

I did the PI trip last year and all the Snowy rides and only find the wind blast was annoying on the freeways around b-doubles and semis, I did have an aftemarket screen which had a raised lip and extended back a little further and it took good care of the wind over the helmet and such, but as I said previously I may be a little biased. Good luck on the hunt. If I wasn't so absorbed with the REX I would probably be a Bandit owner another good all round UJM with better wind protection.

Although often wrong...all the mag comparison tests I have read, suggest the REX is a better bike than the Bandit though! 8)

Mate back in England got a new Bandit when they first cam out, more cheap shit parts than the Yamahahaha.

To go with Chocolate fasteners went non adjustable forks, pastry clutch basket and shoddy paint and stuff showing rust signs after just a few months (Kept in a garage). I'd honestly rather have a Yam, and prefer Honda over both.

If I were in your shoes Marty, I'd be looking for a low Km ZX12 or Blackbird, or dare I say it, even a Bussa. Plenty of grunt, easilly capable of scratching and plenty of long distance ability. Playing with all the upright Hornet/FZ1/Bandit etc is all very well, but none are designed to be high speed mile crunchers. The upright position and lack of decent fairings will simply leave you buffeted with the amount of long journeys you do. Your back will suffer from having to compensate for you neck.

I think the only reason you haven't got a 12 is the amount of grief you've given Gos & Hoffy about land barge tourers - bite the bullet, you know you want to.

Nick ....are you sure you wanna give a bike away to me??? Mate, I've been in the trade for 20+ years! Only my mates wanna sell me bikes as they know although they won't make any money, ........ I won't give em any grief!

But Mate, I am giving Greg at Dave Byrne Motorcycles in Nowra first crack at a new one if I buy new, as he did an outstanding job helping me out of a pissy situation for not a lot of coin! Quodos to the bloke! You however, want me uncrating bikes to earn my savings!!! ;)

Nick, I promised Greg I would give him an opportunity first as he did do a lot for me. If things don't work out there for whatever reason, stock etc., then I will call ya..I promise!! (black's beautiful, cheque's in the mail and I won't come....Just kidding  )

What have you got late model low klms sports touring oriented sitting on the floor Nick?? Anything which might spark an interest?? :)

That would most obviously depend on what you mean by "deal of the century" Nick  ....if you were a diligent sales person, you might still have my telephone number to give me a call and chat to me about it?

Too late Neka! I've checked when he last logged and he must have already seen it before your post! So he's screwed!
