PSG-1 Kawasaki World Superbike team ready and confident
Newsflash, 30 January 2008 - The normally rustic sovereign city state Republica di San Marino was stirred up by roaring engines on Saturday the 26th of January, as the resident PSG-1 Kawasaki World Superbike race team presented itself to the world.
In the old center of the beautiful town of San Marino, stunt riders warmed up the amassed public with their outrageous capabilities. After that the team riders, veteran Régis Laconi and newcomer to the team, straight from MotoGP, Makoto Tamada, unveiled their Ninja ZX-10R race bikes for the 2008 season.
The new livery reflects the atmosphere in the team: full of confidence, proud and eager to enter the fierce battleground of the World Superbike series. With support from Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Motors Europe, the team is now having the backing they need to further advance their quest for podium finishes.
The new Ninja ZX-10R superbike looks more ready than ever to assist the riders in their fight for the rostrum. A lack of horsepower has never been a problem for a Kawasaki superbike, however the team has already found some extra ponies to further strengthen the bike’s performance.
On the side of handling and electronics, big steps forward have been made already. The team reckons that the bike’s overall performance, coming straight out of the crate, was stunning. But to attain the high level of World Superbike Championship, some further fine-tuning has to be done.
New rider Makoto Tamada: “Coming from MotoGP I didn’t quite know what to expect from the bike. But after my first ride I was already very surprised at the high level of performance of the ZX-10R. It’s not even so different from the MotoGP bike I’ve been riding in the 2007 season. I’m getting to grips now with the bike and I’m really eager to fight hard to get as many podium finishes as possible.”
Team mate Régis Laconi is also looking forward to starting off the season, which will be his third season with the PSG-1 Corse squad: “The new bike is feeling dramatically improved over the previous one, right from the start. It offers more feeling and confidence in corners and it has so much power. We only have some more work to do on the front end, whereas the bike doesn’t seem to like a bumpy surface so much when you’re braking hard into a corner. The chatter problem we had before however is already largely solved. I’m sure we’ll fix the bumping issues too before the start of the season.”
From 10-12 February, the PSG-1 Kawasaki team will do some final testing at the Losail track in Qatar. After that, the season kicks off with the first race to be held on the 23rd of February, also in Qatar. For sure, the PSG-1 Kawasaki family will be ready for it!
