GPX ZZR 250 timing chain

Post by Canarygsr »

has anyone changed a timing on a 250? I dont know how to get it passed the primary gear off the crank shaft or do I need to pull it off?

the alleged easy way is to split the pin on the old chain, use some wire and attach the new chain to the old, thread it through (dont forget to attach fishing line to the last link on the new chain lest you drop it into the engine, this is experience talking here  ) reattach the chain (handy hint, a pushbike chain splitter works a treat when you file the end down to fit into the size of the pinhole), triple check the timing, triple check it again, then run it over by hand forwards 3-4 times and then check the timing again. I can say this as i did it right once, then thought i got it wrong, fitting it 90' out and proceeded to crank her over and break EVERY cam lifter lobe in my engine. Not my finest (or cheapest) hour let me assure you.

I cant' help with that side of things, but you should be able to find a manual online.

That said, 99 times out of 100 it's just the tensioner on these, which is a 2 minute fix and costs about $4.
