removing road grime

Gday guys,

I am interested to know a good way to remove road grime from the paint work. A few people have said a small bit of a kero should be able to bring it off easy as and wont hurt the paint..
Would be good to know what others use and the oppions of any professional painter if Kero will harm the body paint on the bike!

I have heard WD-40 is good and I've never seen it damage paint.

Kero is great for your o ring chain, but not too sure about paintwork& WD works but leaves residue.
The pros use "white spirit" (dry cleaning fluid) as it will not affect your paint work & works wonders for removing tar grease etc.
CT 18 for dried on bugs & dirt, dilute it spray on leave over night, spray again & scrub with an old tooth brush or similar than rinse
White spirit is available from bunnings in their paint section.
CT 18 just about any reputable car accesories place.

spray painter near work used to tell me to stick a bit of kero (few capFulls) in the car washing bucket. he said it good for the rubbers on the car/bike helps with tar and chain lube and wont hurt the paint.

he aslo told me to wash it with warm water maybe he didnt want the car or bike to get a cold...

Hmm its an interesting question i reckon, cause no one i have spoken to can really give me a confirmed straight answer! So i just gave it a go, small dab of kero on a rag and touched the spots where there was tar baked on and it cmae off straight away. I washed the areas with a wet rag to get the kero off after and day later still seems to be all good!

I've always used kero on the bike and my cars to get tar and shit off. I wash it off with soapy water, give it a good blast with the hose and then give it a wax as the kero strips any wax off as well.

It's great for bathing old people too. Gets that old person smell right out......

i just use hot water on a rag.

soak it in soapy water put it over teh affected area and leave for 20-30 min then wipe off.

if you do this regularly nothing builds up so its easy to remove use the same for my visor so i dont get small scratched on it.

truck wash is good to..
the other half has a stack left over from when he used to drive trucks always makes the bike shiny
